Guest guest
I live on the island of Oahu, which is about a 30 minute plane ride from the island of Kauai. Kauai is the oldest of the eight Hawaiian Islands, (meaning the volcanoes are extinct), as opposed to the youngest island of Hawaii which has very active volcanoes, and is still growing. I've been to Kauai perhaps 5 times in my life....it's a very quaint island, compared to Oahu (busy). If you enjoy being outdoors, there's plenty to do. I would suggest visiting Waimea Canyon. It's about an hour drive, and really worthwhile. It's like the Grand Canyon, but, on a much smaller scale. Due to the volcanic ash, the colors are deeper in hue. If you're an Elvis fan, you could visit the Coco Planatations where they filmed Blue Hawaii. If you're feeling really adventurous, a friend of mine said that he enjoyed Captain Nemo's water rafting. Or, you could go helicopter riding. I haven't done that either (I guess it's because I've read about the occasional crashes) as my husand and I are too chicken. There's lots of hiking trails and waterfalls to visit. There's also kayaking in Hanalei Valley, or just relaxing on the beautiful beaches. Bring LOTS of sunscreen, as the Hawaiian islands are closer to the equator, and it's so easy to get burned. It's hotest betwen 10 am and 2 p.m. I recall reading one RPer's testimony saying that she was vacationing in Hawaii and her ears got sunburned, which led to a flare. Bring a hat. Also, I need to warn you to bring mosquito repellent. In some of the dense forest areas where stagnant water exists, there has been a small outbreak this past year of dengue fever, which is transmitted via mosquitos. Glenda's daughter lives on this island, but, I'm not sure in which town. I'm not sure if Glenda knows either LOL...Glenda, you have to come and visit your daughter and grandson sometime in the near future! 10 days of a relaxing Kauai vacation sounds really nice. There are some golfing resorts to visit, but, the restaurants and stores there were kinda pricey, so we avoided them. Here's the latest weather forecast for Wednesday: Partly cloudy to mostly sunny with an isolated shower. Temperatures range 70 > 68 degrees. Trade winds 5-15 mph Have a wonderful, restful, trip, ....I'm sure that you and your family will have a lovely time relaxing on the island of Kauai.
