Guest guest
Dear Sandy: I have had a biopsy for TA, and it proved negative. I was told later that they should do more than one to be a really definitive diagnosis though, and they only did one on me. I had started losing my vision and it was the ophthalmalogist who BLEW UP at the doctor I was going to as he was only giving me some cream to put on my ear! He insisted that I be put immediately on 60 mg prednisone. Which I did, and then when we returned to Seattle for the summer I went to my old internist at Virginia Mason who immediately diagnosed me as having RP. He put me back on 60 mg as I had flown back east with my husband when our son was in a terrible car accident and had forgotten to take my pred with. Big mistake. I was told that one should never ever go off pred cold turkey like that. We worked my pred down to 4 mg, but it took a year to do it. Then after my husband died, the stress threw me back into flaring again, and the rest is just history. Temporal arteritis is a very serious problem and needs to be treated quickly with prednisone. The surgeon shaved a small patch of hair in my right temple and I was sedated enough not to care what he did. The incision was cut into the hair line and was cosmetically unnoticeable. This is probably more info than you wanted, but it's one of the rare occassions when I'm willing to write it down!! I shall say a little prayer that you remain under superb care and get the problem under control. Love, Dagny P.S. , someday when I'm in the proper mood I shall add my long story to all the others about the experiences I had getting good care. : When is your next appointment with Dr. Buckner? Mine will be 9:oo am Tuesday, May 28. I'm sorry your trip to Hawaii was dampened, but glad you found some relaxation. __________________________________________________________________ Your favorite stores, helpful shopping tools and great gift ideas.
