Guest guest
Dr. Freedman, If you have only been 100% compliant on SCD for a short time, you are considered a " newbie " . All kinds of changes occur at first, and introduction of yogurt certainly can trigger what we often refer to as " die-off " . Simply adhering strictly to SCD even without the yogurt might come with some unpleasant but temporary symptoms as bad gut pathogens take their leave. You didn't really say what your reaction was... except hinting that it " cleans one out a bit " . (Don't be shy... we're used to " poop talk " around here! ) I would scale back to whatever small amount you can tolerate. Certainly eat it with meals... most of us do. You will have to experiment a bit and see if this is helpful for you. I know some people like to have a little bowlful of yogurt right before going to bed, to give the " yogurt fairies " a chance to really go to work. This might not be well tolerated for you right now. We have to just go by what each individual can handle. Be sure to stick with 100% strict compliance in every other way... and it sounds to me like all of your fruits and veggies should be peeled and cooked for right now as well (just in case you had moved beyond that). Patti, mom to Katera.... on SCD in 2003-04 for 18 months, now back on since 5/27/06. Re: SCD Yogurt I've been using the yogurt for a few weeks. I've been using the SCD off and on for the past few months, until I realized how essential it was and began using it to the letter. When I first began using the yogurt, I used a half of a cup three times a day (before meals). Now I'm down to spoonfuls. I'm wondering if you eat it WITH your meals if it has a less of a reaction, being buffered by the food. My degree is in nutrition and I find this diet plan wonderful. I currently have diet plans for those with anxiety under my website but this is the greatest plan I've ever encountered for colon distress. I'm amazed at how well it works. I'm planning on putting up a site to help others and a forum ASAP. It will be great to talk to others who are experiencing this as well. Thanks for your feedback. Guest guest
No, no, it was a very good answer! I was never intolerant to yogurt before. Loved it, in fact...but after the " suspected " parasite infection, Flagyl, Keflex and Macrobid (in that order), I became lactose intolerant, sugar intolerant and carbohydrate intolerant. I kept waiting to bounce back but loose stools were happening all the time. All the specialists said " eat everything " and " you're fine " ...just the villi and microvilli in your intestines need to heal. It will happen. Well, after 6 months, it wasn't happening. Before the yogurt episode I was improving on the diet. OH, and I did acidophilus off and on for a while but for some reason it had the same reaction as the yogurt. Morning URGENCY and then some. It was like taking a laxative...not diarrhea, just always soft and leaving me feeling exhausted. Sorry to go on and on. I'm determined to make the yogurt work somehow. I took a little with dinner. Yesterday I took it alone and it didn't seem to sit right. I think I took 1/2 tsp tonight. We'll see how it goes. Thanks again, so much for being out here. I hope to open a forum on web site sometime soon dedicated to this so everyone can share information and have others to speak with...my dream... Take care and have a great night. Guest guest
Do you feel the SCD yogurt loses a little bit of its probiotic powers by the second week? I know it's only to be kept for two weeks but wondering if it packs less of a punch by the end of that time. Thanks so much. Best wishes, Ronnie, SCD 4 weeks
