Guest guest
Hey all, Well, its been a while. I haven't had patience to get online as well as the " oomph " needed. I saw my GI this week. We went over the whole Sigmoidoscopy and why he wants to do it.... again. I missed the first appointment. Discussed my spleenic vein thrombosis (new since my surgery last year) Then we went over the " liver mass " my CT Scan from Dec. recently showed. I already had one ultrasound but he is not happy with it. He isn't sure if they are just a bunch of little blood clots in my liver or tumors. Wow liver mass and high liver levels! Haha how fun ! <rolling eyes right about now> All of these wonderful problems are because of my pancreatic experience. oh joy! Eventually we got to the abdominal pain. (the whole reason I went to him to begin with) I took in all of my notes & the Hopkins information that Heidi sent me. Lets just say my GI DR is very cocky... I explained to him that this is a group and no one gave me medical advice, however he still gave me the " I know it all attitude, I have the Ph.D. " I did though remind him that the ER Dr had referred me to see a GI so I could try the enzyme supplements as a possible help. In all, he gave me some samples... Ultrase MT 20's. He left it as if it works good, but I still dont think this is your problem. He did admit though how it could POSSIBLY be my pancreas, but there is so much unknown still about the pancreas that you can never tell for sure. ( yup, a Dr never wants to be wrong !) I made some calls around north of me in Pocatello to a few GI drs to just find out that the Dr who did my surgery in Salt Lake City, Utah is where I will end right back up at. I wanted a second GI opinion. My current GI DR and the specialist who did my surgery at St. Marks happen to be friends. That's how I got the referral. Circles anyone? Anyhow, I hope I made sense. I am really more upset if anything.... at least my family DR was willing to give me pain medicine for the days that I cant bear. ( He also knows my GI & my surgeon - ha ha <sarcasm) He is great though and willing to ease a little of my pain... I am at least grateful to be given the chance to try the Ultrase. I pray it will help me and that I will find some peace in that area at least. The whole liver/spleen? Hmm... I am way too young for this! Right about now I want to find the ultrasound technician who said I had gall " pebbles " and the ER DR who also said the same thing.. and then the wonderful GI Dr who didn't think that surgery was necessary right away.... I WANT TO STRANGLE THEM ALL ! all of this frustration makes me wonder .... Well, thanks all for listening ! hugs, love, peace, and painless !? lyn Wish me luck !!! Guest guest
Dear lyn, While It's true that I don't put on a white coat when go to work in the morning, and don't have a PhD., the part of your story that irks me in regard to this doctor's statement is that the medical professionals that contributed to that research material from Hopkins do, and are probably even more qualified than he is! But I know how difficult it is to reason with an ego. At least the doctor did leave the door open for further consideration by admitting that it " could be possible " that it was your pancreas. What further tests or investigation does he propose to do about the liver mass? You didn't say anything more about this and it worries me, as I sure it worries you, too! Every time I hear the word tumor, bells go off in my ears, so I do hope that he plans to investigate this more thoroughly and promptly. We've heard the news about 's tumors which were found when they were working on her, and subsequently removed, and I know of another member who had a tumor that was earlier thought to be a pseudocyst that required immediate removal. So this tumor talk concerns me, and what do they plan to do to verify this? That's good that he did relent though, and give you some pancreatic enzymes. I also take the Ultrace MT20's and have always been very happy with them. I do plan to talk with my GI about switching me at my next appointment, but the reason for this is totally individual and doesn't affect the fact that I think you should get some relief by enzyme supplements. Do remember, though, that some supplements (brands) work better for certain people than others, so if you don't see any positive improvement with these, it may be that another brand would work better. It may be difficult for you to convince your doctor of this, if they don't work, but it's something you may want to keep in mind. It does sound as if there may be a little too much of a tight circle of familiarity between all these doctors, so I can understand your wanting to see another one for an outside opinion. It certainly couldn't hurt to see what yet another specialist might have to say. I hope the enzymes do the trick for you. With hope and prayers, Heidi Heidi H.
