Guest guest
Hi Fliss, I have had experience with Lidoderm patches: they were developed by a doctor to help his wife get relief from neuropathic pain from shingles (chicken pox virus reactivated in adults). It is approved in the US for the use of shingle pain but other neuropathic pain has been controlled with these patches (off label use). Basically it works to calm down nerves that are relatively close to the surface of the skin - think of the same thing in the antibiotic with pain relief -that is the lidocaine - a topical analgesic. The docs usually recommend that you give them a try for a few weeks to see if they are effective. You can wear up to three of them a day - 12 hours on / 12 off, although some docs claim that going over the time limit will not cause anything bad to happen. In my experience they were not helpful for the scar tissue from my surgeries and did nothing for the deep seated pancreatic pain. But I continued to use them in the hopes that even a little relief will prove beneficial. However they are effective for the boo-boos you get from doing chores! There is a website dedicated to these. If you search using Lidoderm it should pop up! Laurie
