Guest guest
I recieved an email today from someone who says The Stages are making life too complicated and are inhibiting the trial of new foods. Please allow me to clarify the role and importance of The Stages found on the food prep link of Pecanbread. Elaine gave input about them initially but ultimately disliked their use and approved their posting reluctantly. She wanted people to be self reliant whenever possible. The Stages could not include every food. They left out some useful ones at first. People who don't realize The Stages were never part of SCD or written into BTVC feel bound and limited by them. Parents of autism children are busier and some say they don't have to time to do a lot of reading. Elaine suggests how to add new foods in BTVC and which should be reserved for introduction later in the diet. Reading BTVC thoroughly more than once IS important for success. Refer often to the 20 pages that contain the nucleus of the diet itself. The Stages were/are intended as a helpful guideline, not something on stone tablets handed down from a mountain. They are a compilation of degree of easiest foods to digest as reported by parents. They are a SUGGESTED GUIDELINE ONLY. You may want to use them. By all means but YOU DON'T HAVE TO !!!!! You can base gradual new food additions on what is entered in a food log. It's a cinch to set one up free at: www.fitday.com If you have problems at a later date, it could help to refer back and view the effects of various foods you introduced. Carol F.
