Update on Henry

Here's the latest: Henry's surgery to remove his gall bladder and do the

" biliary bypass " went fine last week. He was about off pain pills and so on.

Saturday, the 13th, I headed down to Duke thinking he was getting out. I called

him just as I got in the parking lot and he said he was getting out. In the few

minutes it took me to get up there they were doing the paper work and then took

his drainage tube out (on the side, not where the surgical incision is). It

bled like crazy, they think from a tiny vein that kind of " grew " around the

tube. They thought they had it stopped -- it started again -- a nurse put

direct pressure on it for a solid hour, but it started again. They put about 10

layers of gauze on it and a " girder " type binder around him. He was absolutely

miserable for the night. We thought he would come home Sunday, but they decided

they needed to do a CT scan and so much time went by that they said, " probably

Monday. " So I stayed out of work to bring him home. But the results of the CT

scan showed a little abcess or something near the tube site, seemingly not

related. So today they're doing a needle aspiration and possibly putting in

another drainage tube (slightly different place) and he's not coming home. So I

finally came home and will go on to work tomorrow. Hopefully he'll call me to

come get him tomorrow afternoon! What a " lost weekend " ! This is not " critical "

even though it sounds terrible. It's just disappointing and inconvenient and

not pleasant at all for him to go through.

Sorry this is so long.

Ginny
