Hi ,

It sounds to me like you need something that's going to keep you from flexing that wrist. I don't know what your injury is to that ligament, maybe you can do some gentle hand squeezing, flexion and rotation exercises that will give you better motion, and eventually less pain and more strength there. Another tip to try (you may have already) is to use a light weight in that hand with the palm turned up, that way the stress is not on the thumb and upper side of the forearm. You can let the weight rest in your palm with the fingers relaxed and do all sorts of moves. Try it out, if you need examples let me know. One other thing you could try is getting a set of slide on or velcro wrist weights to put on your wrist or upper forearm, wherever it would be more comfortable. Then you wouldn't have to flex your wrist to do upper body moves at all. Some people even use the larger ankle weights and strap them just above there elbow for shoulder, back and chest work.

I would definitely look into correcting your ligament problem, though. We use our thumb for so many things. I learned the hard way when I slammed it in the car door a few years ago - Talk about pain!!!

I'm not sure if this was what you were looking for, but write back and let me know if you would.

Have a great Sunday!

Carol,I would love some hints for chair exercises. I have a ligament that runs from the top of my thumb, up my left arm, that makes holding weights difficult and painful on that side. thanks!DISCLAIMER!!WE ARE NOT MEDICAL PROFESSIONALS, THEREFORE ANY INFORMATION THAT IS RECEIVED HERE IS FROM EXPERIENCE ONLY.
