Guest guest
Hello Heidi, I'm sorry yopu're having possible problems with your enzymes. I haven't heard before about the enteric coating causing a problem. I think I'm correct in saying that even people who have had a TP can take Creon (I know a couple who do) and the Creon capsules are enteric coated. My panc specialist and gastro both think I have very little, if any, pancreatic function (digestive) left but I'm very happy indeed with Creon. Of course, I haven't taken any other enzyme preparation with which to make a comparison. I DO still sometimes have the flatulence prob you mention but NOTHING at all compared with before I was taking Creon. I don't know if that contributes anything to your dilemma. I'm simply not sure if enteric coating presents a problem. I can hardly imagine manufactures producing it if it does but, obviously, I don't know for sure. It must be easy enough to find out from the manufacturers and/or a panc specialist. I take Creon 40000, up to 3 with a meal, depending on fat and protein content. As I've probably told you before, my consultant believes in as near normal a diet as possible, with high enzyme doses to facilitate it. It works well for me, although it took me several weeks to get used to the enzymes; I had awful abdominal cramps to start with. Obviously, since I am now eating much more normal amounts of fat......I rarely ate very high fat content foods anyway.....I have now put on all the weight I lost so quickly when my gastro gave me the more classically acceptable advice to follow a low fat diet. (For anyone looking to lose weight, it was amazing! I was never hungry because I could eat low fat carbs....potatoes and rice, for example....but no fat. The weight dropped off after the first week!) My panc specialist upped the Creon dose and advised the normal diet. I didn't quite believe him at first so I was very wary but gradually I did what he advised and it worked. I'm now quite chubby again! I've never been seriously overweight but I've always worked hard to keep the weight down. You seem to be a natural slimmie from what I saw on your photo! I can't remember what units of each enzyme are in my Creon 40000. I'll look it up and let you know. I know every case is different, Heidi, so this might not help at all. Are you on the highest dose of Ultrase allowed? Could there be other foods or drinks causing the flatulence difficulty? I find certain fruits (eg. strawberries) and veg (eg. broccoli) can sometimes do so, despite being low fat. At any rate, it couldn't really harm you to try a different brand, could it? Good wishes, Fliss
