Is there a test for this? >> Hi: I didn't know that I had an actual allergy before I began looking into this surgery. And I had to be turned away from surgery before I actually found out what the problem was! I had used a latex cosmetic sponge on my face, a year or so ago, and developed an itching, burning rash from it. I just put it down to sensitivity. There are two ways to get an official diagnosis: one is a serum test, the less reliable of the two. The second is a skin test, where they prick your arm with several different liquids, including latex, and watch the areas for about 15 minutes. A positive reading means that the latex areas become hard and raised. It's worth getting it checked out if you've ever experienced any sensitivity to latex household gloves, med/surg gloves, latex balloons, etc. Blair
