I would not use the memory foam. I belive the manufacturer's warning say not to use it with children as it could be a suffocation hazzard - at least until they are ready for their own 'big' bed around age 2yrs.

Our cranial facial doctor recommended a Bumbo chair. http://www.bumbobabyseat.com/

It is for children 6weeks - 14mos.

It has been GREAT! Keeps them off their backs when board with tummy time, etc. It will take your child some getting used to it, but it helps to strengthen stomach, back and neck muscles.

We also bought the tray and I recommned doing that especially for when they get older and more squirmey. You will be able to use the Bumbo longer with the tray.

We don't use it very often any more and our son is 1yr.

The problems with the Bumbo though, is that if your child's thighs are on the chunky side. AND, putting the tray on. It says not to lean it back, etc. but to slide the bottom part of the tray under the seat is nail breaking! They REALLY need to make that better. Having said that, I compared it to the Prince Lionheart brand of chair (bebePOD), I I'd still get the Bumbo. The PLH brand has a narrower base, the foam isn't as thick and the tray seems like it would break off since it only attaches at the top-middle. Plus, the tray is smaller than the Bumbo. The Bumbo is the "orginal". Originated in India about 50years ago. Therapists have been using them for years. 10 years ago, you still had to get one from your therapist if they would order it for you and they were about $150.00. Also, please remember to never put it on a raised surface where your child might fall if they swirm out of it or on a rare chance, should happen to tip it.

I bought ours at Babies R Us.

I would also recommend getting some toys that suction cup to the tray.

I'm not saying people should use memory foam, but we had a sleep

positioner for infants that was made with memory foam, so I don't

know that it is always a no no. However before deciding to put it on

your child's crib check with your ped. We tried it but in the end we

found co-sleeping was the only way my daughter slept well.

As for bumbo I loved it, but I can't imagine it working for a 6 wk

old. I would say at least 3 mo or more, but I guess it depends on the

kid. It definitely helps before they can sit on their own, but they

need to be able to hold their head up.
