Guest guest
Hi Everyone,I was just wondering if anyone knew of a project similar to that of Emory University, but in California.Thank you,From: Josh Shepherd <shepherd@...>Subject: [ ] Emory University Outreach Project Date: Friday, February 19, 2010, 6:38 AM Hello Everyone, We invite you to view this short presentation that illustrates the great work that our friend Tom Himelick at Emory University is conducting along with his colleagues and PA students on behalf of farmworkers in Georgia. http://www.youtube. com/watch? v=OD6FdjYBVEQ Since 1996, the Emory University Physician Assistant Program's South Georgia Farmworker Health Project has taken groups of medical professionals and students to Decatur and Echols counties to provide free outpatient care to medically underserved migrant farmworkers and their families. Using a mobile outreach model to set up triage camps right in the fields, Emory faculty and students treat everything from chronic medical conditions, such as diabetes, to musculoskeletal disorders. The project is the 2010 Host City Prevention Campaign site, and will receive a $10,000 check from AAPA, the PA Foundation, PAEA and the Student Academy of AAPA. The project receives no federal or state funding. Guest guest
Sylvia, Thanks for posting this. I had the honor and pleasure to watch Tom, and many others, along with the students, set up that in-the-field exam area and treat numerous farmworkers one evening in Southern Georgia. It was really an amazing sight. The other thing that’s not mentioned in the video is that Tom and his team have incredible working relationships around each of the areas where they establish their clinics. This includes massive dinners hosted by area churches who feed the entire crew. Great and inspiring work that both serves farmworkers and gives students an experience they won’t forget.
