I'm just curious how long it took for people to recover and get back

to normal after the surgery?

Normal being:

- energy is at same level as prior to surgery or better

- eating is going fine - without stomach upset

- you're back to doing all the things you were before if not more.

Generally you feel normal. Or perhaps a new normal.

So How long?

secondly, and important as well, is was your surgery lap or open.

i had mine 12/29/03 so i am like 2 and a half months post op.

energy is no where near what it was before surgery. i keep getting

sick with colds from my immune system being so shot.

stomach still gets very upset. basically every other day i get real

sick . one day i will be fine. the next i will be throwing up all

day. and it wont be from what i am eating. chicken or somethings

like that

i do go to the gym now but i dont have much energy.

im 22 had the surgery lap. ive lost 47 pounds.'

hope that helps. i really regret having it done. if i knew i

wouldnt feel like myself for this long i wouldnt have had it done

I had my surgery 9/29/03(open RNY) and...

-it took about 3 weeks for me to get my energy back and it is much

better

-eating is good, i pretty much each anything i want, i sample a

variety of foods, just don't eat much...but i have days when things

run right thru me...

-i am back to doing things that i normally would do, but with much

more energy and definately more confidence

-it is a new kind of normal, a better kinda normal, a different

quality of life

***hope this helps...it has changed my life in so many ways!!!!

I am 60 years old and my one year post op date is on 3/22/04 I have lost 133

to date. I have not been sick at all. I had all kinds of serious health

problems which have mostly gone away since surgery. I was shopping 6 days after

I

had my lap. I would do it over every year if I had to. I feel very strongly

about this surgery saving my life. The main thing is to get your protein so

that you will recovery more quickly and stay healthy. Keep moving and don't

dwell on negative thing. I have nothing but positive things to say about this

surgery and I thank GOD for giving the doctors the knowledge and expertise to

do this surgery to help people like us have a real life.

Keep in mind this is all coming from an old 60 yr old lady that was in a

wheelchair, was a diabetic, was taking 4 blood pressure meds. I don't feel 60

yrs

old but I do feel 60 yrs young. No regrets.
