Guest guest
: Although I dont think there is anything 'normal' about me, here goes: Surgery on Dec 10, 2003 - Lap. Four days post-op I was walking a little over a mile (3x around complex) in the morning and evening. Cant say I did much more than that for 3 weeks, then felt back to normal. This is from someone who has had an anchor tied to her butt for the last 25 years! After fracturing 11th rib Jan 6, I backed off the walking b/c of the pain for several weeks. Now I need to get back in the habit. Still, Im doing much more than before surgery (except eating) with much less effort. I go for my 3 month post-op appt w/surgeon tomorrow; and I will be happy to report to him Im off all insulin, all glucophage, and reduced glipizide (all 3 for diabetes) from 20 mg/day to 5 mg/day. Last week my doc here told me upon 2 consecutive blood sugar readings 80 or below to discontinue the glipizide. Ive had a sinus infection feeding blood sugar so I havent hit those readings yet, but will soon. Also Im off a dozen other meds and hope the blood pressure med will be the next to go. Eating has been going very well since the beginning sans one, yes only one, upset upon trying to eat wings. I can eat just about anything, including sweets (scary, eh?), although I avoid them for the most part. Im fanatical about getting in 80 grams of protein a day and getting all vitamins and supplements. To those having so many problems, dont waste any time consulting with your surgeon. I know everyone responds differently, but ongoing problems should be brought to the surgeon's attention for solutions. Hope this helps. ~~Pat~~ Orlando, FL 252/201/160 BMI 37/ 52 Years Young LAP-RNY 12/10/03 Wayne English, MD Ft Lauderdale, FL Message: 2 Date: Sun, 14 Mar 2004 20:43:07 -0000 Subject: informal poll for those post-op I'm just curious how long it took for people to recover and get back to normal after the surgery? Normal being: - energy is at same level as prior to surgery or better - eating is going fine - without stomach upset - you're back to doing all the things you were before if not more. Generally you feel normal. Or perhaps a new normal. So How long? secondly, and important as well, is was your surgery lap or open.
