Guest guest
Hi. We are new to this group. I have a question or two. My daughter (7 months) has some facial asymmetry--the left side is bigger (eye) and fuller (cheek and under chin) than the right. We have taken her to 2 cranial facial specialist. They both agree that she has torticollis and mild plagio (right) side. However, one dr said the facial asym was 'just her' and no treatment needed. The other dr said that PT for the torticollis would likely take care of much of the facial issues and that treatment for the plagio would not change the facial asym (eye, cheek)--plagio treatment would only fix the back of the head and the slight bump on the forehead. In your experiences is this true or will plagio treatment help with the facial asym? Has anyone else has this type of facial asym? WE are jsut confused as to what to do--treat the plagio or not. Dr said it was about a 3 on a scale of 10 (10 being the worst). Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thanks Lori
Guest guest
My son has the exact same issues. His right side has a fuller cheek and bigger eye than the left. He has left torticollis. We just finished the helmet, and i do not see any difference in his facial asymmetry. His head looks a lot better though. We also have been in PT for the tort for 5 mths and although his neck is better, again havent seen much change in the face asymmetry. i posted a similar post regarding his cheeks about a week ago on this board, so you might want to read the responses from others in the same situation. For the most part they said time will help make his asymmetries look more even.. My son's are pretty mild (only the drs and pt have ever noticed) but are more noticable to me since i know they are there. He is gorgeous no matter what, but i want to do all i can for him! So if your babies head is off (find out how many mm) or you can tell noticably it is mishappen, i would say get the helmet. But if only to correct the facial stuff, dont bother! Guest guest
Our DS had severe plagio and brachy, rt eye bigger than the left, ears were off by a lot, and his forehead on the left side was too flat. He's been in it since he was 4.5 mths and is now a little over 8 months. We are moving on to his 2nd Doc Band, but we can see the huge change. His ears are almost normal, as is his forehead, his brachy is close to being resolved and his rt eye is still slightly bigger, but much better. I personally see the change in his eye--it's much more normal. Before it looked like he was winking all the time or just a little sleepy in one eye. He still has a little tort (almost resolved per his PT) and his plagio went from severe to moderate. I've been told by my DPT that he's just an average grower and still we saw really great results. If in doubt, I would get the Band b/c the window of opportunity is small and it's better to do it sooner than later, for better results. I went to CT (Cranial Technologies) and they give free consultations. I'm sure the other places do as well. (though I never went there) I'd ask the people there who deal with this all the time. > > Hi. We are new to this group.
