Guest guest
We used Hanger for our first helmet. Starband for our second. I WISH I HAD USED CRANIAL TECH FROM THE BEGINNING. THE ORTHOTIST'S EXPERIENCE IS CRUCIAL TO A SUCCESSFUL RESULT.
Guest guest
I was just wondering, would someone mind explaining why some bands are better/have better progress than others? Guest guest
we have a hanger band. I know alot of people on t his board have had awful experiences with their hanger offices. We have had great success so far and should be done tomorrow! Our son started with 18mm of asymmetry and last appt he was down to 2mm in only 8 weeks. It depends on the orthotist and their level of experience. I think that is what really matters. I know alot of parents like the shaper of the DOC bands better from Cranial Tech. Our Hanger band was a bit loose to begin with but after a week or so it was fine after he grew inbto it a bit. Good luck with who ever you choose! Guest guest
DOC, Star and Hanger bands work on the same principles of holding the prominent areas of the skull and redirecting growth to the flatter areas. In expert hands, they should all work the same. However, Cranial Tech has one of the best reputations overall because their therapists are very well trained and managed by headquarters. They also deal ONLY with helmets/plagio. Orthos that use the STAR or Hanger bands, are generally very independant and have to do minimal if any training (I've seen that some do an online test) specific to that brand or helmet and are not overseen by the main company. In most instances, they also work with other orthotics and/or prosthetics, so don't have a plagio focus. That's not to say some orthos aren't great at what they do, but it's become apparent that not all orthos are created equal in their experience and expertise when treating babies' heads. So it's really important to ask questions and make sure you see an ortho that has a lot of experience in treating plagio. Ask to see before and after photos, and ask for references of past patients. Hope that helps! Jake-2.5 (DOCBand Grad 9/08) Jordan-5 > > > > > We used Hanger for our first helmet. Guest guest
Getting a DOC band was not a easy option for me since it involved a 2 hour plane flight every other week, so I looked into other options first. There happens to be a huge hospital with cranio-facial doctors. I was able to ask who they refer people to for helmets and why, THEN call the ortho to talk to them. That way I had an independent person telling me the ortho was good, not just the ortho. Might be good if CT is way too far to be a first choice. Guest guest
Thanks, everyone! It wouldn't be a huge deal to have to drive there if we would get the most educated care. And it seems like they have locations close to everywhere we could possibly move.
