Guest guest
Is there a list somewhere of how many carbs things have? And how do you check things like 24 hour yogurt, which obviously has fewer carbs than regular yogurt or an equal amount of milk, since the bacteria ate the lactose? Unless you drip it, then that changes everything =) Peace =)Alyssa 15 yoUC April 2008, dx Sept 2008SCD June 2009 (restarted)Chinese Herbs (not legal but helping!) Guest guest
Mara I can find some carb amounts for foods online, but it tends to be a best-guess estimate. I use http://en.wikipedia.org and search for a specific food. I also have found several websites that list common fruits or vegetables and detail the nutritional figures for each. I have to say that I'm looking at fiber, fat and sugar content of foods since my upper GI is so finicky about this criteria, so haven't looked in the lists specifically for a carbohydrate column. But I know some of the lists do have that information since I found this information back when I was dealing with a yeast overgrowth and was compiling a ranking by carbohydrate amounts. Just can't find that particular list this morning. In the end you have to estimate. Although I haven't used the site, I think www.fitday.com might also provide some nutritional information. Several folks in this group use it. Kim M. Guest guest
Hi Mara!I know of 2 sites that have excellent carb counters.http://www.dlife.comhttp://www.accu-chek.comThey are both sites for diabetics. I am amazed that carb counting is catching on. When I had my diabetes classes I was told to have 120 carbs a day. Wow! Way too much! But now the attitude seems to be to shoot for 60 carbs a day.Anyway you don't have to be a diabetic to use this site. Dlife has some fabulous recipes created by the famous chef Michel Nishan (he is a diabetic), some good as they are, others are easily adaptable. You don't have to be a diabetic to use these sites. If you want to learn how to prepare many of these dishes, DLife TV is on CNBC several times a week. For a while my blood sugar was out of control and I was told I would probable have to go on insulin. I began watching DLife TV for help and learned all sorts of things I was never told by anybody. So now I'm a major fan! BTW, since I'm on SCD my sugar has normalized itself. I never anticipated that!! One of my favorite side effects!!!On the accu-chek you need to join the Inner Circle. Membership is free and you can just unclick the boxes asking for further info on meters etc. Both of these sites have meal calculators. Accu-chek's is specific for carb counting. Hope that helps.Regards ..... PatQueensbury NYSubject: Carb counterTo: BTVC-SCD Date: Monday, January 25, 2010, 1:12 PM Is there a list somewhere of how many carbs things have?
