Guest guest
Hi, I'm new to this webisite. My 14 year old daughter has crohns and we are on the SCD diet. I cook ALOT but sometimes I need a quick store bought product and also my daughter would like some " normal " snacks as she is getting a bit bored . I was wondering if anyone had alist of storebought SCD legal foods.I read that Applegate Farms has organic hotdogs that are OK. I also read that Walmart has legal soysauce. Other than organic apple chips, I'm stumped. I would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks

Trader Joes has a bunch of freeze dried fruits like bananas that are legal (and yummy!), and also some dried fruit, but that's pretty advanced so you might want to be careful depending on how long you've been on the diet. Alyssa, I'm curious if there is a letter on these saying how ripe the bananas are when they are dried, I just didn't know if they were ripe enough for us. Alyssa, I would be very wary of any commercially prepared banana chips. Typically, they use green bananas because those are firmer and easier to slice thinly, However, you're right about dried fruit being a bit dicey when you're early on the diet. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund

There is some stuff which is nominally OK on the DIgestive Wellness website. So far as I know, there is no legal soy sauce. Applegate Farms is really dicey -- it is strongly recommended you make your own hot dogs. (I have a recipe, which my husband, the dedicated hot dog lover, says are better than any store-boughts.) What kind of snacks does your daughter like? — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund
Guest guest
Aren't some ( check the ingredients ) Lara Bars legal? I've tried them rarely, but my 14 year old daughter, who is not on SCD, loves them. PJ > >Hi, I'm new to this webisite. Curiously enough, though, I do fine with dates and walnuts or dates and pecans which I put together myself. But that takes time to fix. A Larabar is fast, and somehow, I end up going through them real fast and it's like I didn't eat anything. I will say that they are convenient... but advanced. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund

Thanks KatyI don't think so. I should've said that they MAY be legal, but could definitely be made from bananas that aren't ripe enough for us. I've used them without a problem, but that doesn't mean they will work for others. Sorry! Guest guest
Other people mentioned digestivewellness. I like to visit scdbakery sometimes. She cooks 4 different items every week (or every other week depending on how busy she is I guess!). I like her stuff better than the products on digestivewellness but I don't buy too often because it can get pricey. There are some items I can't resist though . Where did you read that there was a legal soy sauce? I mean, it would be pretty cool if it was legal but I can't imagine that there it really is allowed. Stacey > > Hi, I'm new to this webisite. Guest guest
, I just wanted to say something. My daughter just turned 15 and has been on this diet 1 year and 3 months. she has celiac disease. and there's a long story as to why she was put on this diet. Anyway, I just wanted to encourage you and her. It is really hard being a teen on this when everyone their age goes out for pizza and eats chips and candy bars for lunch. My daughter now is able to take a salad with an oil and vinegar dressing for lunch every day. I also pack some cooked chicken and colby cheese for the salad. Plus grapes, apple, an SCD cake or muffin, etc. The Everyday Grain free gourmet cookbook by Jodi Bager and Lass was a blessing as it had a few more recipes to try. Also the almond flour made a huge difference in how things turned out. For the first several months, I was using ground pecans to make her cookies, etc. and they weren't as good. I think this is a real healthy diet. My nephew has crohn's and my sister in law isn't interested in this diet for him, which is a shame. My only concern is the lack of calcium as they are still growing. and her bones crack constantly which I think is weird. She sees a nutritionist and a chiropractor which help her. Anyway, I just wanted to say something. Write back if you ever want to talk to a mom in the same situation. Marla P. Guest guest
I haven't tried them myself, but have read that the ones that need to be avoided contain cocoa/chocolate or bananas (aren't ripe enough for SCD).
