I've had UC for a little over a year and been on SCD about 8 months. I still learn something new or find a new favorite recipe just about every other day. Last week I got a throat infection and had to go on oral antibiotics. A known big no-no for me and my butt. It was a tough choice for me to decide which end of my digestive tract I wanted to sacrifice for the 10 days I'd be on the antibiotics (or not be on them) but in the end I chose being able to swallow over not having to donate blood to the water treatment plant. When I first got UC, I had no solid stools, only mucus, blood, gas, and I would go about every 4 hours. Sooo frustrating! Now that I'm on the antibiotics, they have put me back into nearly the same situation. I'm realizing just how much healing I had accomplished in a relatively short amount of time. I had lost sight of how far I had come and I think this happens a lot. It's frustrating especially when you take a step back for every step and a half forward you take on the diet. I know I'm much better off on SCD, because even on the antibiotics I'm only in the bathroom twice a day, and it's usually after drinking coffee (makes me bleed as well, but if I'm going to be bleeding I want to enjoy it somehow). My bathroom escapades might be red like a horror flick, but they are solid :) Something they NEVER were, even on medicine before SCD.

So, if you can try to remember just how bad you were before SCD, if you're goign to the bathroom 99 times instead of 100, that's still progress and it will eventually be down to once a day.

Hey ,

I am so sorry you have strep. Your humor in this process is certainly an asset

and you will go far with this attitude! Yes, if I want to remember I can look

back at my food journal, but I prefer not to think back on that nightmare. Yes,

there are ups and downs in the first year but the progress is evident.

Do you think you could be a strep carrier? See this article. Maybe a shot in the

tush, as Alyssa suggested, would spare your gut if this happens again and I hope

it does not.

I hope you don't have to go through this again-

It's very helpful.Mara

You are hysterical . I've had UC for over 18 years and I never thought of

calling it " donating blood to the water treatment plant " LMAO! So happy to hear

about your successes on this diet - I wish I would've started all those years

ago but look forward to a brighter - but less bloody - future.
