Thanks. Can you describe the "off" smell? I want to make sure I smell it, too.

In my freezer it seems to be OK for about six months. It's the fat layer on top that goes funny, so when that starts smelling off I throw it. I'm trying to rotate better now having had to clean out a number of containers.

It's kind of a rancid smell. I definitely smells bad. If it

gets lost and stays there longer the fat starts looking sort of funny,

too, though it's hard to describe that. Sort of dry, sort of mottled,

like it had dried into pieces and gotten pounded back together.

I can clarify the " off " smell a bit better this

morning. I just went to the freezer and took out

a container of chicken broth with a nice layer of

fat on top. When I sniff it, I get a faint sniff

of the broth and anothing else. Anything else,

sour, rancid, " funny " in any way, and I'd throw

it. This particular container went into the

freezer this month so no chance of a problem but I always do sniff them anyhow.
