Guest guest
: I am 43 weeks post-op and I had a bone graft taken from my hip. I don't think it changed the size or shape of my hip, but that would be answered better by a doctor. The scar is approximately 2 inches long. I remember first getting out of bed after the surgery and I felt a pulling sensation where the graft was done, there was never any out right pain while in the hospital or in recovery. The doctors held me off golf and jogging for at least 8-10 weeks until they were sure the hip was OK. One thing that happened that was unusual. About 10 days after the surgery, I had the most powerful sensation to scratch the incision on my hip. I asked the 0S and he said it was the liquid they spread on the skin before they cut into my hip that made my want to scratch the area of my incision. I would gently rub the area or use my shirt as a scratcher to alleviate the discomfort. It took about two days for that feeling to go away. Guest guest
Hi , I got that exact procedure performed in June when I had my orthognatic surgery done. Of all the pain associated with this surgery, the hip is the worst. I'm sorry to be blunt but that's the truth. The bone will grow back, so you won't notice anything outside. The scar is, on me that is, a little over 3 inches long, but it was done in a way that it's getting invisible. By the time it's completely gone, in a year, only a very pale pink line will be visible. No skin surplus will be visible (as there is none actually). As for healing and complication, there are none. And be thankful that a piece of your own bones is taken out and grafted because you have almost no risk of rejection (as opposed to synthetic bones). However, be ready to carry a stick (crutch ??) for when you'll leave the hospital. My surgeon said that my case was typical and I couldn't stand on my leg (even less walk on it) for 7 days. Shower is gonna be one other area you'll need to be creative... If your case is like mine, you're gonna have to make sure no water touches this spot for 5 or 7 days. So, I used plastic bags with surgical tape, my friend was holding a towel on top of it while I was washing my hair and upper body. Fun, fun, fun! :-) And even today, 7 months later, it stil hurt from time to time, on a very smaller scale of course. I can feel when bad weather is comming. No joke.
