Guest guest
Hi everyone, It's been 2 yrs since I've been on this site. With our 1st son Jack in 2006 we were Star banded at 5mos w/ severe plagio, he graduated with excellent results and now our other son Cash now is needing a helmet for Brachy. He is already 9 months. We are so disappointed that another one of our babies is having to do this. To top it all off Childrens Mercy of Kansas has denied the claim due to no facial shifting. However the back of his head is super flat & " deformational " We are so sad & frustrated. I don't know where we went wrong. I guess we will appeal the claim and see what happens. I need to research brachy.... Any comments are greatly appreciated. Guest guest
I learned you can't wait for insurance. We exhausted anything we could to pay for Chloe's helmet. Just to think, once his scull bones fuse there won't be any help. The sooner you helmet the better. Good luck to you!! Guest guest
Season, It really bothers me that Insurance doesn't cover the band, period. Something has to change soon... This said, don't feel so bad. My daughter had plagio at 8mm and brachy at 98.2% back when she started DOC band treatment at 9.5 months old. Two months later, her plagio was resolved and her brachy improved by 5%. She will be 14 months old this weekend and she will get another scan on April 8th. We will then have more accurate numbers, however I can already tell you that her brachy has improved even more. Her head doesn't look flat in the back anymore and if we had reached the end of the life of the helmet, I'd be happy to see her graduate. I really hope to see her brachy number go below 90% but even if it's not, she just simply looks good now. It's a pain that you'll have to pay out of pocket for the band, but you've gone through the helmet procedure once and you know that it's all worth it. Brachy is harder to correct, they say, but a helmet/band can make things look better. If you want to read more about Maysa's journey, you may want to check out her blog at http://mymaysa.wordpress.com/ She's been in a helmet/band since she was 5.5 months old.
