Guest guest
Hi all. My son was just diagnosed with Crohn's this past Aug. He's on 100mg 6MP for 2 weeks now-been working up to that so he's been symptomatic for weeks. He's on Prednisone also but tapering. I want to try this diet with him (and the rest of the fam), but he's 17 and wants to eat like his friends, etc. I'm not sure how to best introduce this. It sounds like you have to be very strict and consistent which is fine, but how do I get him on board? Thanks so much. PS This freaks me out a bit-I'm not real fond of cooking(but I'll try). Guest guest
Sherry, My 18 year old started SCD the day after Christmas. It's tough for a teenager living in a college dorm when everyone else is living on pizza and cheezits, but it's worth it. We see SCD as a healing approach whereas everything else just treats symptoms. I envy you! I wish I'd heard about SCD a year ago when my son was still living at home. I envy you that you have a chance to offer these healing foods while your son is still under your roof. I freaked out too when my son's toxicologist first recommended SCD. It took me a week of constant research to feel comfortable with the food plan, cooking and actually doing it. The first few weeks I felt like I never left the kitchen, but I cooked big batches of everything and froze it Now that I have my freezer stocked with safe legal foods, it's much more manageable. Now my son and I both feel that the SCD food tastes much better than that fast food junk we used to eat too much of! I echo everything Amelia said in her post. She was right on target. SCD is the only thing we've ever found that helps with healing the core problem. 6MP and steroids are terrible drugs (my son was on them for almost three years for leukemia). This page on the pecan bread site was very helpful in preparing me to discuss this with my son http://pecanbread.com/p/intro/nt/motivate.html Hopefully it will help you too! ..· ´¨¨)) -:¦:-Hang in there mom! Guest guest
It is hard at first, but the food is delicious. I'm the one on SCD, but now my teenage daughter likes " my " food better and brings SCD legal food to school in her lunch. I make SCD cookies for her now. It's hard to give up fast food as a teen, but I think he will feel better on SCD, and that will motivate him. Guest guest
I can't really answer for the family situation but I can say that before I started SCD I didn't know how to cook at all and now I'm really quite good and I enjoy finding and adapting new recipes and flavours!
