Guest guest
Hi, Was diagnosed symptomatically in 7/09 and pathologically in 12/09 with Crohn's. Have felt like dirt since Thanksgiving 08. Lost 50 lbs since then. Underweight about 15 lbs from recommended weight range. Still dealing with lots of distention, bloating and cramping. Does anyone have suggestions on relief? Feel about 5-6 months pregnant without the benefit of hormones allowing for bone movement. Rib cage feels like it is puncturing my stomach and diaphragm. Bones ache from no fat cushion. Have decided to do SCD but not been very diligent. Have family that " needs " their carbs. Extremely tired with lack of energy.

Well, then. Who's doing the cooking? <g> You can provide them plenty of cards -- SCD-legal carbs. If they want their rice and pasta and potatoes, they might just have to learn how to cook them for themselves! (Actually, in fairness, it's entirely possible to prepare an SCD meal, and then just make a side dish of whatever for those who gotta have their grains and potatoes. I'm a cook by taste cook, and that wouldn't work for me. My husband, bless him, went cold turkey on giving up his rice and pasta and potatoes when I went SCD, and only gets them when we eat out. He said it would be unfair to put temptation in my way like that and make me prepare something I couldn't have.) — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund
Guest guest
Hi, I think if you did SCD dilligently (it does not work if you don't), you will feel better. Start the intro with plenty of nutritious home made soup. I'm on SCD and I cook for my family. I find that I can make a legal main course and veggies, and a side dish of illegal potatoes or rice for them to eat. Nobody has complained about their dinners- they like SCD food, and I only eat the legal food. It's been win-win. I hope you feel better soon, PJ ---, In BTVC-SCD , " needleknots " wrote: > > Hi, > > Was diagnosed symptomatically in 7/09 and pathologically in 12/09 with Crohn's. Guest guest
Like the other replies, you have to be either all in or your all out. SCD can't be done 75% legal it has to be 100%. Obviously people make mistakes especially in the beginning eating foods they thought were legal only to find out they are not, but it's a learning process. Like PJ mentioned if you have family that needs carbs, you can make a main dish for everyone with veggies, ect. and then a side of rice or potatoes for them. To me it's the same as if you go out to eat and everyone orders something different to drink. Not a huge deal. It is, however, a huge adjustment for yourself! I would hope the rest of your family would be supportive of your decisions and try to help in some way especially in the beginning. Moral support is huge when you first start. You can still make amazing meals and I cook for my whole family alot. They don't even know they are eating SCD legal foods. In fact alot of them wonder how I found out about butternut squash and how they've been missing such an awesome food for so long -UC - 1+ yearsSCD - 7 months 100% strict and 4 months restricted diet.Asacol - 5 pills a dayTo: BTVC-SCD From: needleknots@...Date: Thu, 28 Jan 2010 15:37:43 +0000Subject: Frustrated Newbie Hi, Was diagnosed symptomatically in 7/09 and pathologically in 12/09 with Crohn's. Guest guest
I wish I could get my husband to eat squash! I cook it for myself but then fix him potatoes. He won't do any kind of squash or zuchini so my "lasagna" uses crepes as the noodle layer. Works quite well in place of the traditional zuchini layers you see in many SCD "lasagna" recipes.
