Guest guest
Hi, I'm in the beginning planning stages of my treatment plan for my jaw correction. I was wondering if anyone has any detailed information they could pass along on what is involved with the expansion surgery of the upper jaw. My oral surgeon feels that my upper jaw is too narrow and needs to be widened. The surgery is scheduled for this summer, however, I have not been able to find much information on the internet about it. My surgery will be conducted in a hospital under general anaesthesia and I will also have my wisom teeth removed. Is the expansion surgery usually done in a hospital? Also, is there a lot of preparation time prior to surgery, and how long is the recovery period? Thanks for any advice you can give me. I'm the first in my family to have this done and the process is somewhat overwhelming for me.
Guest guest
Hi My SARPE surgery is tomorrow morning. Here is what I have so far. First you need braces and little toture device called rapid palatal expander. You can see more information here http://www.drmcfarlane.com/patient_zone/expander.shtml. The palatal expander is attached to you teeth and it is used to expand you upper jaw. I got mine yesterday. I can talk near " normally " but eating is no fun. Basically you need to wash your mouth and brush your teeth each time you eat. The food get stuck between the expander and roof of your mouth. Also you will eat mostly soft food. You can chew with you molars but it is somewhat challenging. That is all for know so good luck. Emir > > Hi, > > I'm in the beginning planning stages of my treatment plan for my jaw > correction. Guest guest
Thanks for your reply. Was your palatal expander done in a hospital? The websites online show orthodontists as performing the procedure, but my oral surgeon plans to conduct it, mabey because he will be removing my wisdom teeth at the same time? So there was not too much preparation prior to having the procedure done? Good luck with the rest of your surgery. Guest guest
My palatal expander was put by orthodontist. I guess in your case your OS may put it in. No there was no much preparation at all. We need to remeber that for us this is a major thing. I mean somebody will be cutting our mouth in pieces. For Oral Surgeon who performs a couple of hundreds of these a year this is probably an ordinary procedure.
