Guest guest
Hey , I just had my surgery done Jan. 5th so everything is still pretty fresh in my mind. I'll try and answer these questions for you. :-) Is there bloodwork done? I had a few tubes taken out for tests and they also had me urinate. Also if your surgeon asks for it, you'll go and donate blood for your surgery in case of anything. I went but my veins were too small, it wasn't a very big deal though. For how long are you at the hospital that day? My appointment was at 9 and I was out of there by 11. Most of the time was spent waiting though. Are you admitted that day or do you get to sleep at home/the hotel the night before your surgery? I went to the hospital the day of the surgery. I had to be there at 6am because my surgeon requested that I be first case. How long do you have to fast before your surgery ~ and do you need to fast before the pre-op? I couldn't eat anything after midnight the night before. I wasn't required to fast for my pre-op. Surgery: Do you actually walk into the operating room and lie on the table, or are you already out by then? I walked into the operating room, the nurses help me though. I laid down on the table and they started to put these things around my legs so I won't get any blood clots, there was a lot of activity around me. They put on the " oxygen " mask and I was knocked out after wards. Do they rig you up to IVs, catheters and other accessories AFTER you are asleep or before? For me they put in the IV before I was asleep, they put in the nasogastric tube, catheter and breathing tube after I was asleep. The breathing tube came out after I was awake but I barely remember it. The nasogastric tube and catheter came out the morning after the surgery. When they took out the nasogastric tube and catheter it was a really weird feeling. Not pain just really uncomfortable. I still had the until I was discharged from the hospital, there was a little pain but nothing too bad. I hope these answers help! Good luck with your surgery!
