I am 5 months post-op and still have signficant numbness in my upper

gum and back by my lower molars. Is this common? I was told my

chin might be numb for up to a year, but nobody mentioned the upper

gum being numb. I know they cut the nerve, but it sounded like it

would return quickly. (I never had any problem with my chin!) I

would appreciate any feedback and experiences on this. Thanks!

Hi, i was six months post op on christmas day and i am very numb in

full left tongue (driving me crazy, i am a teacher and it affects me

bigtime) i am numb on all gums, upper and lower and the roof of my

mouth. that is just inside! i am slightly numb in lower lip,

something i could live with, and slightly in chin, could also live

with that. the inside stuff is what i would like healed, god

willing. I also have some funny sensations. in an area between two

lower molars, when i floss, i have shooting pain, not unbearable,

but sharp, along the left side of my numb tongue! odd.

Marla & Pomy,

I also get numbness in the arms and legs but only when I have small and large

flare ups. Which I have had approx. 30 of them since Oct. 08. In days I go to

UTSW in Dallas, tx. for an Exam and further Diag.

Pomy if like me you also have memory trouble you should keep a Journal of when

this happens. Show you fully explain it to the Doc when you have your visit. You

didn't say if it was one or both limbs going numb when this is happening. If it

is one limb then I suggest you get to the ER right away, because it could be a

stroke that is happening. If it is both or all of your limbs , like me the is

more then likely your NS causing it. But either way you should get to or talk to

to your Doc right away..

Hey Pomy

I have numbness in my feet all the time. They always feel like they are just waking up and I can't really tell where they are. When I walk I end up looking down to make sure I am walking without tripping myself. Some times I feel like they may be waking up. Too much hope????

People ask me why I keep moving my feet. I just say I am trying to wake them up. Hey maybe someday it will work.

I too get dizzy spells. I take Meclizine to help. When I am going out someplace I take a dose just to be on the safe side. It works so far. If I am staying at home I skip it because I already take too many pills. And yes I have walked into walls and furniture. My sweetie usually ends up laughing at me. He says I look like a pinball game. I will get him for that. lol

Have a wonderful pain free day, and stay off the walls. *wink*

numbness

Hi to all, I was wondering if anyone else suffers from limbs "falling asleep". I've been experiencing this for the past few weeks. The weather has been very cold and my thumb has been numb for a while. I also have this feeling in my arms , but they come and go. Another thing is that I've had a few dizzy spells. These spells are similar to an inner ear infection, that causes to loose balance or walk "sideways". When it hit me, I was on a street and walked into a wall. Luckily, it was early morning and no one was out side. Does this mean that my ns is acting up? Pomy

Hi,

See your neurologist you might need to change or add a med. When I had similar numbness like yours they put me on Neurontin and it fixed me right up. Your case is probably different, have it looked into just the same.

feel well,

Rick

HI Pomy,

That numbness is the neuropathy from the sarc. It could also be that your blood sugars are high-- so if you've done the high dose pred thing-- make sure the docs keep track of your A1C as well as the fasting sugars.

Hydration is the other component of numbness-- as dehydration makes for lower blood volumes, and lower blood volumes means lower red blood cell counts, which makes for less oxygen getting out to your extremities.

Also, if your breathing is compromised-- then the bodies survival instinct comes into play, and it saves what oxygen you breath in, and sends it to your vital organs, and the extremities go numb.

I know I harp on these issues -- but for every person that has really paid close attention to these issues, and has actually monitored both sugar and fluid intake-- they've gotten alot more comfortable with their neuropathy issues.

I put this out as a challenge to the local pain support group I belong to -- and I can't tell you the wonderful difference it's made, not only for me personally, but for several very close friends.

Take care,

Tracie
