Guest guest
Llemar, Good for you and thank you for sharing your story! It is not just with bowel diseases that doctors are pushing drugs. My husbands family suffers from heart disease and diabetes, over the past twelve years I have seen the health of his siblings deteroriate beyond beleif. However, my husband has stuck with me making diet lifestyle changes (no meds or surgeries) and our health seems to keep improving. We have tried to discuss this in the past with his family but they don't listen/believe. They just listen/beleive their doctors who dispense pills and schedule surgeries. My husband is the oldest of his sibs and the only one in good health. It is so sad. To: BTVC-SCD Sent: Fri, January 29, 2010 2:06:11 PMSubject: Choosing Life I just a read a post about a 17 year old who has been recently been diagnosed with IBD. I can advocate for choosing diet and taking care of the cause rather than masking symptoms. I have first-hand knowledge of both approaches. If i had followed my parents would have just followed what doctors said taking medications, eating anything and live as if there were no hope of addressing the cause. I've had Crohn's Disease since I was 15 and that is why I admire the courage that Alyssa has because I knew the courage it took for me. I was pressured to follow the drug path, all I heard was I am a little boy and doctors know this and know that. The truth is that doctors know drugs;how to manage symptoms that's all. Drugs have their place but is I more than misguided to think that a bowel disease is not related to diet. Six years after I'm glad I followed this way, before SCD I saw no hope and didn't really expect to wake up the next day. I was dying and nearly did on more than one occasion. I prefer to do something that makes sense to being hopped on steroids, weigh 89lbs and have no sense of my surroundings with life just flying by. I have a long way to go but I'm committed. I have a friend from Sri Lanka that seems to believe that drugs are the way. He has been sick only two years but has had 5 surgeries. He wants to hang out with his friends Everyone wants to be normal but live throws us curveballs sometimes (what do I know about baseball) but we have to adjust so we can still make contact. Every day I am able to go study what I love I give God thanks.Llemar21 years oldCD 6 years SCD restarted 18 monthsJamaica

I'm the mom who has the 17 year old with Crohn's. It encourages me to read your thoughts on the drugs. I feel the same. I don't want these in his system-they are so potent and I feel like the doctors themselves don't even know what the long term consequences will be. I feel that they are taking chances with people's lives here. Sort of the approach of, maybe it will work but we can't guarantee that you won't develop something worse. I don't like those odds. I pray that this is going to be the right approach for my son-that God will bless our efforts and bless him with healing. You are right to care for yourself in this way. Keep going and let us know how things are with you. May God Bless You with health. Sherry
Guest guest
I just had to respond to these 2 notes. It brought tears to my eyes just now reading them. Especially the sentence that says "That God will bless our efforts and bless him with healing." My 15 year old daughter who has celiac is on this diet. She is writing a report for school regarding her dreams. as a take off of Luther King, Jr's I Have a Dream speech. One of her dreams is for her to be healthy as an adult. - that includes the anxiety she experiences also. Lately I have been praying with my ladies prayer group for a miracle to take place in my daughter's body. God is still a God of miracles. I think I need to add everyone who is on this diet to my list of people I pray for. and "that God will bless our efforts and bless us with healing". Marla P. Guest guest
If your nephew is out of high school, he's old enough to do the diet without his mom (Alyssa is just 15, and started the diet by herself). Forget about your sister-in-law, and go straight to your nephew with information on SCD. If he reads the book, he might just be interested enough to take the plunge :-). Holly Crohn's SCD 12/01/08 > > , I just wanted to say I totally know what you mean. I have a nephew who just graduated from high school and has had Crohn's for a few years. He has had various surgeries and is on meds and has gained a ton of weight. My daughter is on the SCD and has celiac disease. My sister in law is not interested in the diet at all for her son, and it kills me. I guess it makes me mad when people are closed-minded and won't even look into a diet change or other options for their health. Be informed and then you can make an informed decision. Oh, well. I feel the same way you do as far as relatives not being interested. > Marla P. > >  > > > > ________________________________ > > To: BTVC-SCD > Sent: Fri, January 29, 2010 4:12:20 PM > Subject: Re: Choosing Life > >  > Llemar, > > Good for you and thank you for sharing your story! > >  > > > > > ________________________________ > From: Llemar Nicholson <llemux (AT) yahoo (DOT) com> > To: BTVC-SCD@yahoogroup s.com > Sent: Fri, January 29, 2010 2:06:11 PM > Subject: Choosing Life > >  > I just a read a post about a 17 year old who has been recently been diagnosed with IBD.
