Guest guest
Hi There I am new to this whole thing also and got my braces on Dec 7th. I was told that the surgery could be anywhere from 6 months to a year depending on how quickly my teeth move into alignment. I too was hoping to have everything done very quickly LOL....but such is life. I am living in St. 's Newfoundland and am moving back to Labrador in a few months...we were supposed to be here till July but things have moved faster than expected and now I have to fly down here for my Ortho appts and for my surgery. So I am hoping against all hope that my teeth move in record time and I have my surgery before the end of May. Well you never know!!! Take care Tanja > > Hi everyone! > > I've been lurking here off and on for well over a year, but just > went yesterday for my first meeting with the OS. Guest guest
my teeth were pretty crooked to start with, but my orthodontist had me ready for surgery in 5 months- if this cheers you up! that sucks to have to fly in just to get the wires changed- can your orthodontist coordinate with another one in your new town for the check-ups? gina > > > > Hi everyone! > > > > I've been lurking here off and on for well over a year, but just > > went yesterday for my first meeting with the OS. Guest guest
Hi ! All of your concerns were mine about a year and a half ago. I'll tell you my little saga and hope it helps. I'm 27 and also had braces when I was little. My dentist noticed some of my teeth were being grinded off by yours truly (I had no idea.) Anyways, he gave me the name of several orthos. All had the same feeling... I needed orthognathic surgery to correct the problem. This was all happening in the summer of 2003. My ortho thought it would take about 18 months to get me ready for surgery. By the first of November 2003, I got braces again (although this time I got the clear ones). I was ready for surgery by November of this year 2004. So, braces for one year and I had surgery on December 8. The ortho says we are looking at braces coming off by June. This is a grand total of about 20 months start to finish. So, it can happen quicker than two or three years, but I'm not sure about 9 months. Sorry! -Casey -- In orthognathicsurgerysupport , " memphis_tiff " <tiffany@t...> wrote: > > Hi everyone! > > I've been lurking here off and on for well over a year, but just > went yesterday for my first meeting with the OS. Guest guest
Thanks that does cheer me up There is an Ortho who comes in once every two months but he freaks me out. I was living up in Labrador and my husband took another job that brought us to St. 's for " one " year and then we have to move back to Labrador. I did see the ortho in Labrador but while I was in his office he held me down the whole time I was lying on that chair with his hand on my forehead and he freaked me out. We moved out here and the Surgeon suggested someone else who is apparently the best in this city and he is a wonderful person also.....SO...long story *grin*.....I will continue to go to Dr. Flynn here in St. 's. The surgeon Dr. Cardinal and the ortho Dr. Flynn are buddies and they work closely together on all their cases and quite frankly I feel that the financial cost will be worth having a team of docs who know each other and trust each other. I just hope that time is quick ..... Couple questions.... What is the average time of braces after surgery? Once the surgery is done how often do you have to see the OS? Thanks Tanja > > > > > > Hi everyone! > > > > > > I've been lurking here off and on for well over a year, but just > > > went yesterday for my first meeting with the OS. Guest guest
i will have my braces for about 6 months after surgery (hopefully less). i have post-op appointments once a week. One the day after surgery, then the day after that, then 1 week later, then the next week, the next week, and the next week. after that, i'm not sure how often i see him (i am at day 17 post-op right now). i imagine not as much, but other people will probably have better answers than me. and every OS is different, although i am pretty sure the once a week thing is common because they want to make sure you are healing correctly. it is important to have an orthodontist that you trust! i have the same situation as you- my ortho and OS work closely with many patients together, they are a great team. gina > > > > > > > > Hi everyone! > > > > > > > > I've been lurking here off and on for well over a year, but > just > > > > went yesterday for my first meeting with the OS.
