Considerable bruising -- suggestions?

Hi all -- finally posting again following crazy internet chaos that

lasted almost a week. Thanks to everyone who answered my earlier

questions about blood clots in the throat -- it's finally getting

better, so there's really much less bleeding now (and therefore much

easier breathing/sleeping).

I'm curious if anyone else has experience with SIGNIFICANT

bruising. My surgeon told me that in his decades of doing this

surgery (upper + genio) he's literally never seen anyone bruise as

badly as I did. (He suggested seeing a hematologist down the road

after recovery just to determine if I may have some sort of specific

bleeding disorder or vitamin K deficiency or something). My surgery

was on Dec. 27 (so about 11 days ago) and I still have two *very*

black eyes, plus a very charming purple goatee and moustache.

I iced things in the hospital when I could (I was in ICU for several

days, and frankly I seemed to be the only person sometimes who

remembered to get the ice on!) and iced for a little more when I got

home, then switched to heat for a few days. Earlier this week when

I saw my surgeon, he said he didn't know if there was much more to

do with the bruising other than to wait it out. Which is fine with

me, if that's really all I can do, but I was just wondering if there

were any other bleeders/bruisers out there with any advice -- just

in case there's anything else that can be done to speed it along a

little? I'd like to go back to work in a couple of weeks with at

least most of the major discoloration gone, if possible...

Thanks! And I hope everyone is having a good new year.

Sara
