Guest guest
Don't worry! This is common at around the 9 month to 1 year mark. I would just drop back to intro type foods for a little bit -- especially the broths and pureed soups and other things you know to be gentle to your gut.AmeliaHusband UC 9 years, SCD 20 monthsLDN 3 mgTo: BTVC-SCD Sent: Wed, February 17, 2010 3:25:24 PMSubject: Renewed Symptoms Help! Hi Everyone, I have UC and have been on this diet for 11 months with great success. Unfortunately, I have had reoccurence of moderate bleeding and urgency. Is this normal?? What do you suggest I do? I could use any advice possible. I have never cheated on this diet and am very happy with the success but I'm worried now. Thanks so much. Guest guest
I had similar experience after 12 months and had to go back on prednisone, which was a disappointment but it worked.

Guest guest
I was on prednisone for about 3 months. I have UC. My GI strongly discouraged LDN and will not prescribe it. I felt very good following SCD and taking prednisone. SCD helps me a lot but I am still not symptom free even after 2 years on the diet and am considering J pouch surgery because this disease is affecting my life too much. Guest guest
I am sorry to hear this. Are your symptoms as long and as bad? Life Without Bread discusses this, with regards to low carb diets, and says, while it is possible for symptoms to re-occur with UC, the relapses are not as bad and less often. Have you noticed that pattern with you? I know many GI's do not support any dietary intervention, and some don't support LDN, but I will never understand the enthusiasm for surgery instead of less invasive things, except in serious circumstances. I know there are many cases where this is the necessary thing to do, and this may be your situation, but it is a big thing to go through. Some have gone to low carb scd to see if that helps. I've heard that kind of thing too often. He would put you through surgery, irreversible surgery, before allowing you to try something efficacious, without nasty side effects, that could very well prevent you having to have the surgery? That's very close to malpratice, if not actually malpractice. Sorry for stating this so strongly, but that kind of closeminded arrogance on the part of some doctors makes me so angry I could spit fire. Please get a second opinion before you submit to surgery you may well be able to avoid and might deeply regret. It's YOUR body, and LDN is an alternative no doctor should be just dismissing out of hand -- espeically, I supect, when he/she knows very little about it and hasn't bothered to find out. n> _____>> From: BTVC-SCD [mailto:BTVC-SCD ] On > Behalf> Of n Van Til> Sent: Wednesday, February 17, 2010 10:59 AM> To: BTVC-SCD > Subject: Re: Renewed Symptoms Help!>>> On Wed, 17 Feb 2010 11:03:58 -0500, kson > wrote:>>> I had similar experience after 12 months and had to go back on>> prednisone, which was a disappointment but it worked.>> Imnd telling us for how long, and for which disease?>> Did you consider LDN witt the SCD?>> n>-- Now available. Guest guest
No, my symptoms are not as bad. And SCD has helped me more than any other drug and I have tried Remicade, Asacol, Lialda, Imuran, Pentasa, and Rowassa enemas. But when I am on prednisone and SCD I am almost normal (2-3 B’s a day and no gas or blood). I am SCD for two years in April. SCD took about 3 months to control my symptoms and then I did very well until the 12 month time and I had a flare. SCD has not worked as well since then. Guest guest
,Have you considered that you might have a yeast problem? Prednisone causes a higher blood sugar level and the yeastie beasties love it.Forgive me if someone else has already suggested this to you.AmeliaHusband UC 9 years, SCD 20 monthsLDN 3mgTo: BTVC-SCD Sent: Wed, February 17, 2010 7:09:03 PMSubject: RE: Re: Renewed Symptoms Help! It's not uncommon to have regressions, even though it is scary and worrisome, especially when you haven't cheated. I would drop back to easy to digest foods -- your intro diet -- for a couple of days, and then gradually return to your normal foods. If the bleeding is making you worried, I would try the vitamin E enema method to help - 4000IUs of natural mixed tocepherols vitamin E in a TB of warm water before bed delivered with an ear syringe.
