Guest guest
Hi Are there any other people out there from the UK? If so can I ask if any of you have managed to get their op or orthodontic treatment covered by insurance? Also interested to hear your stories. I have only just had my first consultation which I paid for privately and am now waiting to be referred back to the same surgeon on the NHS. I'm in Surrey and hopefully at some point going to be seen and operated on by Professor Haers.
Guest guest
There are. some post more frequently than others. I am not. I do know though that some folks have had private ortho -- I think NHS won't cover that part after you're about 19, but could be mistaken. As for the surgery, quite a few folks have had it with the NHS. One problem at least one woman confronted was that she had to yield her scheduled operation because others with more pressing needs (cancer, e.g.) needed their surgery more urgently. I think she was " bumped " twice, but eventually did have the procedures she needed, and was quite happy with the outcome. I also believe that it is the practice to keep patients in the hospital longer -- maybe four or five days, after the surgery. If you have questions, ask away. Read around on the sites and you'll find some answers even without asking. C. > > Hi > > Are there any other people out there from the UK? Guest guest
Hi I've just got my top braces and palate expander and have had my wisdom teeth and bottom 'no.5' molars out for the bottom braces next week. My orthodontist got me a meeting with the surgeon Mr (Middx and Surrey) for free last Oct and they told me I needed upper and lower osteotomy with orthodontics, which I could have on the NHS, even the ortho as it's not cosmetic but a medical need. However that would mean an 18 month wait before the braces started, and I'm 35, so as the treatment will take 2 years I decided on the private ortho at £3000 with NHS surgery in 18 months. Then found out that my husb's Bupa from work would cover the removal of impacted wisdom teeth butwas told it wouldn't cover jaw surgery, so Mr removed the wisdoms in Dec. On follow-up he suggested I try Bupa again and it turns out that they do cover the surgery and it looks like I might get the go-ahead as I meet the 'medical need' criteria. Might even get some cash for the ortho from Bupa, but probably not as I wouldn't change orthodontist now, and she's not one of theirs. So, fingers crossed a the moment. If I have to have NHS surgery at least it's the same surgeon, but the private hospital's much nicer and I'm not as paranoid about MRSA there! Hope that helps. Good luck Helen > > Hi > > Are there any other people out there from the UK? If so can I ask if > any of you have managed to get their op or orthodontic treatment > covered by insurance? Guest guest
Hey Im from the UK! Im having upper/lower surgery this summer on the NHS. I would be interested what criteria (ie age, medical neccessity etc) the NHS use. I remember I found a scaling system on the internet which was really interesting, but I cant find it any more. If you have any more Q feel free to ask! > > > > Hi > > > > Are there any other people out there from the UK? Guest guest
Hi I'm from the north west of England. I had surgery on the NHS last summer. I had my orthodontics done privately as the Dr I wanted to do the treatment only works privately (he was recommended by my dentist, surgeon & just about anybody I spoke to about orthoontics - he's amazing!). It was worth every penny & more. I think you can get the surgery on insurance, however you are just as well going with the NHS. I believe you stay in hospital a little longer on NHS & I was certainly glad of that - I was in for 5 days/4 nights. I don't think I would have wanted to go home any sooner. Anyway good luck! . > > Hi > > Are there any other people out there from the UK? If so can I ask if > any of you have managed to get their op or orthodontic treatment > covered by insurance? Guest guest
Hi, I'm also from the Uk, living in London. I had orthodontics done privately, and was due to have surgery last year but wasn't happy with the surgeons that the orthodontist recommended. Nobody told me that it was available on the NHS, but I found out myself, booked a consultation and then was told that I would be able to have it done on the NHS. As it turns out, I've decided to have it done privately at the end of August this year, with a surgeon in California who specialises in Orthognathic surgery and does nothing else. After meeting 3 surgeons in London, I wasn't very convinced that they could offer me the best treatment for what I wanted. So, as i'm not insured, I'm sure I'll be working 7 long days a week for the next 10 years or so to pay for all this! If you have orthodontics on the NHS you're probably in for a long wait. I imagine the best thing to do would be to have orthodontics done privately and the surgery on the NHS. As for insurance, as the operation not as common here as in the US, I don't think insurance companies are that clued up on it. Although, if it's available on the NHS, I can't see how insurance companies can argue with it. Suzy > > > > Hi > > > > Are there any other people out there from the UK?
