Guest guest
Kim, I would ask them to try a different brand or formulation of B-12 injection; you must be allergic to an additive, probably a preservative, in the first one, or you'd be dead by now... everyone NEEDS B-12 to survive! You haven't been getting it from your food for three years, so you must either be getting it from somewhere or you've used up all of it in your body, hence the anemia. How bad was the allergic reaction? If they can't figure out what ingredient caused the allergy and you have a reaction to the next one too, you can always get Benadryl liquid or another antihistamine at the same time. Using a different muscle might help too. Sometimes the B-12 shots really irritate my bum but they never bother me in the thigh. Anemia can destroy your life. I've been having problems with my blood along a similar vein (groan-LOL) since December, and it's been an emotional and physical roller-coaster. I seem to be getting better now, finally, and I hope I'm right (my sense of improvement is based in how I feel, not blood work, which I get done again in about 10 days). http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/000569.htm Great article on pernicious anemia. My Dr. said he has never seen this kind of reaction in 20 years of practice. I can't do sublingual because I get ulcers under my tongue. I have been having a lot of gastric problems and had a UGI and abdominal sono. My psych. Dr. said that all of my symptoms could be related to the anemia. Any thoughts? Experiences? Suggestions? Any help is appreciated. Kim in VA
