Guest guest
Dear Jane, Your post is right on the money! BTW, Dan, I think you look much better than before - you're a nice looking guy, and now with a perfect bite to match . If we all started scrutinizing our faces constantly, we'd all be never getting out of surgery. During my preop appointments, my OS mentioned that my nose was crooked and if I had it injured before. I've never noticed anything wrong with my nose, thank for pointing it out to me! I also had a crooked chin which was fixed with this surgery, but when I would point it out to people, their answer was " Really? I can't tell " . Many of the little imperfections are visible only to us. Jane, take good care of yourself. I think we had surgery the same day (Feb 24th). I'm banded shut, so I'm having an easier time right now. I can't imagine what it must be like to be wired shut - I'm barely dealing with my bands here. It must be very depressing. Your husband must also be very busy with med school - mine is a second-year resident, and is never around, and when he is, he just wants to sleep. Our 2-year-old is in New York City with grandparents until next weekend, and I miss her a lot, but at least I don't have to worry about taking care of her - how are you dealing with your child? Best of luck, and remember that you can vent here any time. Irene. > > > > I really appreciate all of the positive comments and support all of > > you have given me. Guest guest
Dear Irene, Wow! we have a lot in commom. I have a 14 month old and I hate not being able to talk to her. She immitates the sounds I make(I'm not sure that's a good thing because she's learning to talk right now). I have been brave enough to pick her up or stupid. She has pumped my jaw a couple of times with her head(not hard at all) so I have to be more cautious. My mom has come over to help on the weekends. However she leaves sad because she can't stand to see me so swollen and miserable(which I usually take out on my poor husband!) Also, she wants to blend soups and offer me something to drink every other minute. It's killing her to see me so thin. I don't like it either but I'm trying to do better. I am having trouble with the pain I feel from my stitches above my upper lip. Moving my lips hurts a lot, rinsing, brushing hurts. I am not sure when they will dissolve. I think about 4 weeks. I'm wondering when they do will I have the same range of motion in my lip? Right now I can barely lift it above my teeth. My husband will find out in two weeks where he matched for surgery residency. It's a stressful time but I know he will be even busier next year. My OS pointed out a lot of my never been noticed imperfections too. That's exactly what I said to myself, thanks a lot! Keep me posted on how you feel. This group has gotten me through this! Jane > > > > > > I really appreciate all of the positive comments and support all of > > > you have given me. Guest guest
Dear Irene, Wow, we have a lot in common! I have a 14 month old daughter. I hate not being able to talk to her right now. She is copying the sounds that I make which isn't a good thing I guess becuse she's learning to talk right now. She wears me out. I have been brave or stupid enough to pick her up although her head has bumped my jaw lightly before so I should be more cautious. My mom has been coming up on the weekends to help with her, but that just gets my mom all upset seeing me swollen and thin. She wants me to eat eat eat and it's still difficult. I'm trying though. My stitches above my upper lip are giving me a lot of pain. When I rinse and brush or try to talk they pull and hurt. I guess they will dissolve in about 2 weeks. I'm wondering about my range of motion in my lip because right now I can barely lift my upper lip above my teeth. I just wonder how that is after healing. My husband finds out where he will be doing his surgery residency in 2 weeks. I'm excited but also stressed. I love my job here and I have a feeling we are going to be relocating. I am very glad to get all this out of the way before we leave. If we do relocate it will be great to start over somewhere with a great new smile. Keep me posted on your recovery, my surgery was Feb 23 so we are pretty much in the same boat. I would much rather bands though. I hope you feel well and I hope your husband or someone is taking good care of you. Mine is trying but I'm afraid Dr's aren't good nurses if you know what I mean. Guest guest
You may not notice face imperfections, but all those imperfections add to less attractive face... next time you look at an average looking face ask yourself why they are just average looking ...it's because of how each facial part is positioned and proportioned... we may not notice the asymmetry or proportions, but we'll just say they are not that good looking... conclusion: asymmetry (among other things) will make you less attractive, if everything else is held equal... I'm glad that my bite has been corrected and i don't feel self- conscious about my profile; however, I'm not happy about the asymmetry that's resulted from the surgery... I'm not sure that i look better after my surgery, but i sincerely think that Dan looks have improved, especially his side profile, after the surgery... Sometimes it takes time to get used to a new face....
