I'm not sure I understand but let me see. You don't have to have 3 c.

per day--it's recommended not to have over 3 c. per day though.

If it's the dairy that constipates you, you could eat some yogurt and

take acidolpholus pills.

If it's the acidolpholus that constipates you, doubling the starter

would have the same effect as the regular yogurt.

You may want to reduce the amount until you can eat more yogurt. In

the knowledge base at http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info you may

find more information or at www.pecanbread.com which is the

children/autism site.

Not sure if that helps but some moderators will be on tomorrow.

You can get legal acidolpholus pills for SCD at Lucy's Kitchen Shop or

Digestive Wellness on-line. I just caught the milk being the problem.

I started out with minute amounts of yogurt like 1/8 t. and worked my

way up. I probably still couldn't eat 3 c. per day ;-). You're still

pretty new to the diet too so it's better to go slow, you'll have

better results.

I use Yogourmet to make my goat milk yogurt. I've read somewhere it takes 3cups of yogurt a day to get the best amount of beneficial bacteria. That's the limit per day, that's the best amount. I am not sure anyoneactually eats that much. I can'teat that much as it constipates me. I was wondering if it would be okay todouble the amount of yogurt starter (4 packs, instead of 2) for 2 quarts ofmilk. I reason that 1-1/2 cups of yogurt with a double batch of starter wouldprovide the same amount of beneficial bacteria as 3 cups of yogurt with asingle batch of starter. It doesn't work that linearly, because there is a finite amount of lactose inthe milk to feed the bacteria, and if the bacteria don't get fed, they die. Soyou'll get some more bacteria and a lot of dead microscopic bacteria corpses- heh! You can certainly increase the dose, but I would one and a half it, not doubleit. It should produce an extremely tart yogurt. But I wouldn't eat 11/2 cups if it is leads to bad results like C,since that is counterproductive. Eat, say, a half a cup of yogurt, someacidophilus supplements and some s. boulardii supplements. Mara

Hi Claire,

I would suggest that you eat yogurt through-out the day.

Don't worry too much about amounts of bacteria.

Fermented foods are loaded with beneficial bacteria.

Once your gut ecology settles and you feel better you can look into ideas as to

how to make probiotics more efficiently implant in your gut.

Until then, just work with your body and listen to it.. best guide ever..

really!!
