I am 1.5 week post surgery from upper lower jaw. I am just wondering

about those of you that are or were wired shut completely as I am.

Did you have to eat with a syringe the whole time?? Is Boost the only

decent meal replacement?? WERE YOU EVER ABLE TO TALK WHILE WIRED

SHUT! I am losing too much weight am exhausted all the time (not

gettiing enough help from husband) and am going back to work in a

week. 5th grade teacher. The space where my wisdom teeth were realy

is only wide enough for thin liquids. Shakes have been difficult (it

gets stuck and just flows out my mouth! Need help!

HI Jane,

You sound JUST LIKE ME! I am 5 weeks post-op and still on liquids till

wednesday when they untie me. You should go back and read my posts. I

was pretty graphic and honest about what the heck I felt like through

the whole thing. I am doing better now. You will be able to drink

normally (coffee cups with lids are good... they allow for the perfect

amount of liquid per sip) & use a straw by next week but get the fat

ones. Get Yogurt with no pieces. (the Dannon Fruiision are good...they

are a little piecy- but some flavors less than others... the ones with

berries you should save till you're a little better) Get the soups from

pacific foods and imagine foods... they are the only thing I could find

that were not yogurt or chocolate flavored that tasted good and have no

pieces at all. I drink 1, maybe 2 chocolate boosts a day but they are

reallty gross and mostly just sugar and oil. Instead I went to costco

and bought organic chocolate milk. (many starbucks have them too- but

they are overpriced conciderring what I paid at costco) It tastes MUCH

better and has 8 grams of protien per serving. I am still hungry but

mostly because I miss real food and am irresponsible about eating

enough of the foods that I have started eating. Also, instant

potatroes--- everyone says that... mixed with lots of milk, broth, or

those soups... you'll be able to handle those with a straw in about a

week. o, and farina- also with a lot of milk- sometimes I mix in a big

dallop of jelly for a change and foir flavor.

That's it. That's my whole menu. I stopped trying to puree things until

last week when I finally felt I would not suffocate if the food got

caught. Now I just pick it out of the rubber bands. It ain't attractive

but I don't care. I also stopped berating myself for not drinking the

fattiest, most protein, disgusting tasting things I could find, and

just tried to keep myself eating SOMETHING! You will be able to talk

better after they take out the splint, and continuously better as you

heal and just get used to it. Oh, also, I have a starbucks hot apple

cider with extra caramel and whipped cream every day. It sorta takes

the edge off all the " creamy " textures I am drinking. And, that's where

I steal my fat straws. :-)

Good Luck!

Happy to answer any questions!

Thank You so much for the menu. You don't know how badly I needed

some ideas other than the nasty protein powders that I refuse to

drink although I know I should. I do have another question and I

really should know this already but as I have come to find out I was

so unprepared when I jumped into the surgery without doing my

research first. Ok I had my upper widened 2mm and my lower moved

back/left 3mm. I am wired shut (with wires not bands). I should

have asked my dr this before I couldn't talk but anyway, he says in 2

weeks I will have an appt, then in two more he will cut me loose. So

5 weeks total wired shut. Does that mean that when he takes my wires

off my splint will go too at the same time? Then I wonder if I will

be banded shut!!!! I knew I would be wearing rubber bands after this

but will they constrict eating cheesburgers and french fries!! Or

will they be looser?

Too Skinny and in destress!LOL

Well I certainly do not diet. I weighed 121 at surgery and now am

109. I am dizzy, tired, and need something more than boost. I tried

to blend regular soups etc. but it didn't work. I'm sure I'll try

again soon.
