Hi,

2. You should be concerned about iodine. I switched to using sea salt at the

same

time as starting SCD. 9 months later I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism and

found that i was deficient in Iodine. i take a supplement called Tri-quench

by Scientific Botanicals. I had my thyroid levels checked prior to stopping

regular salt and they were fine. I am assuming there was a connection.

3. I did not get my period for 7 months after starting SCD but they resumed once

I started to feel better. How old are you? Could you wait for your cycle to

resume

naturally or is your biological clock ticking? I personally would not take the

birth

control pills. I was on them for two years and feel that they worsened my

health.

Good luck.

dextrose in it. Do you guys know of any salt with iodide that doesn't have

six months ago. My husband and I are hoping to try and have kids sometime this

year. I went to the gynecologist, and went on a 10 day course of pills that were

supposed to get me to have my period. No luck yet, though I have a couple more

days where it could happen. If not, I'm supposed to take a month's worth of

birth control to hopefully get things started again. She gave me a free pack,

they're chewable, so I'm sure there are illegals in it. I have never taken birth

control before, so are there any birth control pills that don't have illegals? I

don't even know if I have to get a prescription for those though, and I'm

wondering if the chewable ones will be that detrimental. Thoughts?

I never had a problem with regularity, but certainly periods effect

symptoms - on a monthly basis. The systems definitely interact.

From a medical point of view, I think it would go much easier on you

if you stablized your crohn's before destabilizing your entire

system again by messing with your system with birth control pills and then

getting pregnant.

You'll just have so much going on, you won't know how to read

things happening in your body. Which might discourage

you again.

Is there a way you can put off your plans for half a year or so,

while you deal with helping to take care of your illness?

I would imagine that pregnancy would be easier on you if you

were healthier first.

Amber,

BCP's and other hormones will give you a " fake " period. Stress and illness can

shut down your periods, as can weight loss. It makes sense since the body has to

be ready to carry a baby, and can't do it times of illness and starvation.

Elaine said the small amount of dextrose in table salt is worth the iodine.

Thyroid problems will make it hard to get pregnant.

The best way to get pregnant ( well, you know the best way LOL ) is to get

healthy first and starting SCD, getting nutrition, may be the best way to jump

start your periods naturally.

I may be in the minority, but I've always felt better taking birth control

pills. Whenever I stop taking them, my ovarian cysts start acting up. They've

also helped me control my anemia.

Amber, I know it's comforting to hear that others share in your experience so I

wanted you to know that I've gone through the same thing. Anemia equals a

stopped period for me! Keep your chin up, there's hope!!!

I just had bloodwork done, and I am anemic. Although I forgot to ask for the

numbers.

Hi Amelia,

I was thinking there might be something else going on. I had my thyroid tested,

but I don't know if it was the proper testing. And I'm a little confused about

the adrenal testing, because from what I've read about it, most doctors don't

test for adrenal fatigue- is that right? So if I had it tested somewhere online,

then if the tests come back as my having adrenal fatigue, what would I do?

Also, I'm curious, if a person does have adrenal fatigue, does exercising make

it worse?

You're right though, I really don't want to get pregnant now while I'm still

flaring and sick. I can barely take care of myself right now, so adding a baby

into the mix right now doesn't seem feasible. I will have to learn to be

patient, which I'm not very good at!

Thanks for your input,

Amber

on Father's Day), and my third son was born shortly after my 37th birthday

(that's what I get for joking about being able to handle a 3rd better than my

husband could!). I had never been pregnant before the first one and have only

ever been pregnant the 3 times. I had been on the pill for at least 10 years,

and had some 'female' trouble that convinced me it would be difficult to

conceive. My husband also had reason to believe he wouldn't be capable of

fathering children.

my body can have a period again on its own. But I am starting to worry that my

biological clock may be winding down. I'm 31 and I know that by the time a women

reaches 35 the risks increase for the baby, so I kind of feel pressured a

little. Hopefully things straighten out within the next 6 months, if not, I

don't know. But you're all right, it's probably best to let my body heal on its

own first. Plus I'm on meds, and perhaps they are having an effect on my cycle.

Sigh...to be healthy again. Hopefully I'll get there.
