Surgery date....

Hi everybody

I am a longtime lurker and have already obtained a great deal of

information from this site, but have a couple of questions. I just

got my surgery date (April 4) after 2 1/2 years in braces. I will be

having a Lefort1 to bring my maxilla forward approx. 1cm, and just

wanted to check with those who have had this procedure done. I have

arranged for approx 4-5 weeks off work (I work in a busy ER...lots of

talking and long shifts)and hope that will be enough as I can't

really afford much more. My surgeon seems to think this is

reasonable but for those who have gone through it, any opinions.

Also, I have already had a SARPE.....will my post op discomfort

compare to that or will it be far worse? While not pleasant, I

personally didn't find the SARPE all that bad. Any personal

experiences are appreciated. Seems like there was a time when I was

so impatient that my OR date would never be set, and now it seems so

soon....I guess I'm just never happy...lol.

Jeff,

I had upper and lower done 2 weeks ago. I think 4-5 weeks is

reasonable, and if you're in good health, you will probably recover

enough to return back to work in that time. I have been home for 2

weeks, and will start working part time from home this coming week. I

think I'm up to it already. For me the hardest part of returning to

work in the office will be eating lunch, but I hope that by that time

my splint will be out, and I'll be able to chew soft foods.

Irene.
