Guest guest
Hi everyone (esp Bob and Katja)... Just wanted to check in and see how people were doing. I am 9 days post-op, and feel about 4342 times better than i did the first few days, so hang in there! i think once the anesthesia wore off i felt a ton better... anyhow, just wanted to check in. the biggest annoyance right now is the swelling (it's not that bad, but people who know me know that it's not what i look like) and some numbness around my chin. hope everyone else continues to do well.. pamela
Guest guest
Hi Pamela Glad to hear you are feeling 4342 times better(LOL), after only 9 days post-op ....so things really do start gettin a bit better...I Guess I am at 4 and a bit Post-op ...and I am feeling a little more hopeful...maybe about 432 times better(ha ha )...I actually had enough energy to wash the car today ,so I am starting to get bored ,and I think thats a good sign.... Still sore numb and swollen...My bottom lip has started to deflate somwhat...Thank God cause I was pretty much sure it was going to explode,...my jaw and chin are very puffed up still... Being banded had me feeling uptight and clostraphobic last night..so I was freakin out a bit...... I went through major back surgery 5 years ago ,and I thought that was nasty...But I,m thinkin so far this has been even more trying......Once they untie my mouth I,m sure I will be a happier camper... How Long did you use ice on the swelling ?... when are you supposed to use Heat? I Have no bruising ,?...is that somthing that comes out later ? .... Hope everything keeps on gettin better for you... Guest guest
Hi Bob-- 432 times better at day four is quite a feat! i have been taking pictures every day, and pictures from days 3-4 are the funniest. I used ice for the first 48 hours, and then quit. I have heard that ice doesn't reduce swelling much after that. then I used a bit of heat just because it felt good, but nothing too consistent. I think taking advil/motrin helped with the swelling. i wasn't wired/banded, but my claustrophobia came from chin dressings (from genio) and this other pressure bandage they had me wearing (for lipo). those things drove me nuts; taking the bandages off made me insanely happy, though I wasn't sure what to expect when i took the bandages off (Did the surgeon mess up and give me a jay leno chin? fortunately, he didn't). I bruised but i thnk most people don't. my surgeon actually told me to go get tested for bleeding disorders because people generally don't bruise as much as i did. make sure you're gettng a good diet--the liquid diet can wreak havoc on digestion, make sure you're getting lots of fiber and what not to keep your digestive system settled--around day 4 i started to feel really gross until i made some adjustments to my diet. Washing the car at day 4! I'm so impressed. Day 4, i was maybe washing out my own zip-n-squeeze bag. But, mom was here, so maybe that let me be a bit more lazy than i needed to. Sounds like you're doing great--good luck and keep us all posted... Pamela > > > > Hi everyone (esp Bob and Katja)... > > > > Just wanted to check in and see how people were doing. Guest guest
> > ...Hi " rymi48 " , you are pretty much having the same thing later this year.... They used titanium plates and screws to put everything back together,...and used elastic bands on both sides to stop things from moving until the bones mend with each other?...I am going to be banded as far as I know ,for 6 weeks ,but Ihope he is going to loosen them a little this coming thursday.... ttyl Bob > Hi Bob > > Glad your feeling better hang in there it will get better. > Can you or someone else tell me i allways thought with > lower and genio that they normally use just a few elastics > on each side. any particular reason for banding you?? Guest guest
> Hi again... I have 2 locations ,1 on each side where they installed some metalwork top & bottom to attach the bands....they look like single thin rubber bands , wrapped several times.....it is sufficient to hold my teeth/jaws tightly clenched together...By loosening them I think they just wont have as many wraps to allow some slight movement??? Guest guest
Hi Pamela, Thank you for asking.... I don't think I'm at that break through time yet where I feel tons better. I had a pretty good day today, but tonight, my pain meds don't seem to be doing anything. The longer I sit here, the more and more I am hurting. I'm not even near due, but I just now took the next dose (an hour early). I don't know.... I'm going to ask Monday when I call for the refill. In the meantime, I hope I get to feeling as well as you and bob are doing.... I didn't hear you mention washing your car though... Come on Pam, you've got to keep up!! Bob made this a recovery competition apparently. I wonder what I can think of to top that!?!? I'll muse a while and let you guys know! Yes, the swelling is Ultra annoying, I agree. It's supposedly better and has gone down, but appearances aside, it feels worse and worse. I made thecomparison earlier to feeling totally over inflated. How about you!? I don't feel like myself yet and my swelling is uneven, so I am really wondering how everything is going to work out in the end. How has your bruising been? Did it take a while for that to show up? I haven't bruised much yet, but don't know if that's still waiting to surface.... let us know how it continues to progress for you. Thanks for checking in... Katja PS what surgery did you have and when did you have it? I can't keep everyone straight in my woozy mind right now!
