Guest guest
Hi everyone! I'm new here. Recently diagnosed with Crohn's and started the SCD 5 days ago. I've browsed a lot of the history here an already found answers to a lot of my questions, and I'm super happy this resource and community is here. My first question is: When making yogurt it's advised to use a yogurt starter or an appropriate store bought yogurt. Can we use our own homemade yogurt as a starter for our next batch of yogurt? If not, how come? Thanks! ~ SCD newbie
Guest guest
Don't use your own yogurt as a starter, but if you're not casien free you can use Dannon All Natural Yogurt from almost any grocery store. I've heard that the greek yogurt Fage makes a better yogurt (less tart) but I haven't found it yet. Either is fine - you'll probably end up liking one better than the other, though. Can we use our own homemade yogurt as a starter for our next batch of yogurt? If not, how come? This is not advised because of a possibility that down the line the starter can get contaminated with astrain we are not trying to ferment.Mara
Guest guest
Thanks for the info everyone. I actually have some starter on hand, I was just hoping to save a buck or two But, thanks to your responses I can see it would not be wise to cut corners in that way. > > > > > > > Don't use your own yogurt as a starter, but if you're not casien free you can use Dannon All Natural Yogurt from almost any grocery store.
