Guest guest
Alyssa,Did you say you would like to hike the Appalachian Trail one day?Yep! I think it would be amazing. I love camping, which stinks since all the foods that I can eat are rather perishable.. Eventually though, I think I should be able to work something out! There's one lady whose son just did a two week hike, and she prepared and dried all his meals. <g> You could also develop a taste for pemmican -- dried meat and rendered fat. The voyageurs and mountain men lived for months at a time off it. If you want to read an irreverent account of the Appalachian Trail, try Bill Bryson's A Walk in The Woods. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund
Guest guest
Alyssa,You could dehydrate many things and not have to worry about it perishing! You can dehydrate coconut or nut flour breads so that they are crips like crackers, you can dehydrate yogurt, fruits, veggies, etc and all you need is water to rehydrate and cook. You can definitely make beef jerky, pemmican (Marilyn already sent the directions for that), and even spaghetti sauce and dehydrated zucchini for an instant spaghetti dinner!
