Sorry, forgot to add:

The sad truth is that there just is not many things we

can buy at the regular grocery store. 99% of my son's

food (not including meat) comes from the HFS. There's

alot available by mailorder, but I'm just not much on

mail order because I like to use cash to shop, and

when I want something, I want it now. You can buy

rice cakes at the grocery store, but they can be

cross-contaminated.

The one thing I know. Graham crackers and wheat thins may never cross my

threshold. They had wheat thins at work and wouldn't walk by the desk that had

them. I can only eat such things by the box full.

One of the rules we had for detoxed drug addicts was that you can never again

hand out with your old friends. Well, wheat thins, graham crackers, chips

pretzels are my old friends and the can never visit my home.

Ditto!! Also....pretzels and those cute little crackers that Kashi makes.

They are called TLC's....(Tasty Little Crackers). I cannot stay away from

those things. They stay on the shelf in the store....safe place for them!

,

The mini-meals/snacks sound fine except for those ugly graham

crackers. I have a cracker thing too. I have just stopped buying as

many.

The thing that I had to chuckle at was the ground beef. I can't

do ground beef on any regular basis and finally decided to give it up. I

know use ground turkey for things like meatloaf. The texture is a little

easier to digest. Jennie-O and Louis Rich both make ground turkey and

they are both good.

I actually have a recipe for carmel popcorn that is made with a liquid SugarLike

(I get the Sugar from www.vitalady.com). It's great for those PMS days!!! It's

crunchy, sweet, and actually better for us than using real sugar.

Snacks

There, I said it, that nasty " S " word... I know I'm a newbie Grad and

probably pushing it ;)

I would like some feedback on what ya'll eat for snacks/mini-meals. I

will share with you some of the things I do. Bear in mind though that

I do eat some dairy, I just don't drink milk or add it to my protein

shakes. Some snacks I do eat: Blue Bunny Lite 85 yogurt, cheese, nuts

(almonds mostly), cottage cheese, apples (sometimes with p'nut

butter), Quaker Quakes Caramel Corn (this is my PMS crunchy craving

food). The big one I've become addicted to is graham crackers. When I

am really bad I have Philly Cheesecake flavor cream cheese on it.

Gotta keep that stuff outta the house!

Help me! I'm so weak sometimes! Those graham crackers call my name, I

swear!

For mealtime when I fix food for my non-WLS DH, I have chicken, steak

or pork chops, or roast of some type, a spoon of taters, a couple

spoons of veggies (peas or green beans usually, occasional carrots).

I don't eat bread, pasta or rice....fills me too fast and makes the

pouch grouchy. Just kinda lays there like a lumpy ball of dough, ya'

know. I also can't do ground beef, except in 's chili. Doesn't

matter that I use ground round in meatloaf either, still can't do it.

The protein bar I've been having is Balance Gold, seems to be the

only one I can actually consume regularly...and I've tried a lot

of 'em. Detour bars were tasty but gave me a belly ache. Think the

nuts early on didn't agree with me. Perhaps I should try them again.

OK, thanks for letting me ramble on about the munchies.

Have a great day!

Okay, Jellybean, give up the recipe! You know that once you mention

something like that, we gotta have the recipe. And I have a bottle of

the liquid SugarLike sitting on my shelf all lonely like, so it would

love to snuggle up to a little popcorn.

O.K. everyone...here's the famous Oven Carmel Corn. I, unfortunately cannot

take credit for creating this, but have made it many time when I get the

munchies.

Signed, Elf w/blue sparkly jellybean toes!!!

(AKA - Tina)

3 qts. Popped Popcorn (I use airpopped popcorn)

1 cup Brown Sugar Replacement (Sugarlike, Etc.)

1/2 cup Margarine

1/4 cup Corn Syrup Replacement (Liquid Sugarlike, Etc.)

1/2 tsp. Salt (optional)

1/2 tsp. baking Soda

Heat oven to 200 degrees, divide popcorn into 2 pans

In sauce pan heat sugar, butter, corn syrup, and salt. Stirring constantly, boil

5 min.

Remove from heat at 234 degrees, add soda and stir until foamy.

Pour over popcorn, mix until well coated. Bake 1 hour stirring every 15 minutes.

Spread over wax paper to allow to dry without becoming a giant popcorn ball.
