Hi ,

I sent an e-mail to the US Wellness folks because they have a number of products

(the jerky, the pemmican, and did you notice the beef stock made from the

Nourishing Traditions recipe?) that would simplify my life greatly. They were

really helpful and responsive, and though not familiar with SCD, told me they

were adamant about using products that were pure, and that there was nothing

added outside of their ingredient lists. Of course, pure to them may be

something completely different that it does to us. I didn't ask about the

turkey jerky, but the only questionable ingredient in the other products I'm

interested in was the salt (and maybe the pepper, although I get the impression

that anti-caking agents are usually not added to it), and they said they use

pure sea salt. I'd like to talk to them on the phone, and get a letter on

letterhead before I'm absolutely comfortable, since I've discovered the hard way

that even long explanations with people providing me food (along with their

reassurances) hasn't necessarily yeilded legal food.

I haven't written to any manufacturers yet, but I imagine you just send a letter

explaining the diet and asking for them to certify on their letterhead that the

requested products do not contain illegal ingredients. It's on my to-do list,

but who knows when I'll get around to it. If you do get a letter, it's good to

share it with the group (I imagine by scanning and sending it to Marilyn?)

The US Wellness people were really nice, and I got the impression that they

care, which is half the battle.

Check, and check.

They were one of the companies recommended to me when I was hunting bison

liver to make pate for after my cancer surgery. (Doctor wanted me on an

iron sup, I said, no, it would have to be liver. She laughed at the face

I made, because I don't like liver.) I ended up getting the liver from

Black Wing Meats, who were also really, really nice.
