I eat six meals a day for the same reason. But not candy. The candy puts you on a seesaw actions. I am sure you know that you have to quit the candy. Eating good stuff every couple of hours is the way it works for me. You can switch to a protein shake or a slice of apple or oj. Candy begets more candy. My 2 cents. Guest guest
Hello to all, Today is my first " Re-Birthday " and as a gift I get to become a part of this group. One year ago I had an open RNY; then ten days later, I had a very serious infection and nearly died. I am still very grateful for this surgery. I have lost 175 pounds... I am still 86 pounds from goal. My highest weight was 416, but I weighed 411 when I had the surgery. My husband and I moved last weekend, it is good to know that I have the physical capability to move. One year ago I couldn't have done it. I think back to that time and remember how I had to sit down to load the dishwasher, how walking from one end of the house to the other was almost too painful to do, and how standing to take a shower would be so painful I was left in tears. NOW LOOK AT ME... I was picking-up boxes of books and heavy furniture and actually carrying it, I am working now (for three years I was disabled and couldn't), and I have lost 175 pounds!!! I have gotten my life back, I have gotten my sense of humor back, and I'm getting my health back. On the health side of things, I have gone from 10 medications daily to one...a blood pressure patch that I change once weekly. And I take a pain pill when I need it. I no longer have diabetes and the neuropathy in my feet seem to be slowly healing. On the emotional side of things, that seems to be changing as well. I no longer feel insignificant. I am no longer the fattest person at the company that I work at. I don't feel like I have to do twice as much as everybody else to make-up for being fat. I am satisified to do my job as well as I can and that IS enough. I have found myself caring about the way I look again... I go see a stylist about every 6 to 8 weeks to get my hair cut and styled. That is VERY new for me! I have also found myself looking forward to the future and making plans. Geez, I think I am alive for the first time in over 20 years!!! BUT, I do have a problem with eating...I have discovered since I started working that I seem to have hypogylcemia. If I don't eat some kind of candy or eat a little all the time, I get the shakes, the sweats, angry, and feel faint. So I started eating some candy and natural peanutbutter (I always pour the fat off). But it seems to be now that I am getting addicted to the sweets...NOT FAIR!!!! Thank you for listening and I hope you have some ideas for me. I am extremely honored to be a part of this group now. Guest guest
Kathy, CONGRATULATIONS on your wonderful progress during this last year and welcome to this wonderful family. I am 26 months post op and recently had 2 episodes of what I call " hypoglycemia " . Looking back, both times were a result of not eating for about 6 or 7 hours; I was extremely busy both days and just didn't stop to eat. Please don't eat candy, keep good things on hand, and it's best to just eat a little something every couple of hours. I have found that eating a little protein helps keep my blood sugars on an even keel. Again, keep up the good work! I had my surgery at 11:00AM July 5th, 2002 and I've been lurking and waiting patiently to post for over a year. > > One year ago I had an open RNY; then ten days > later, I had a very serious infection and nearly died. > I am still very grateful for this surgery. I also am still grateful for this surgery. I have lost 129 lbs and am 45 from goal. I started out at 314 on the day home from the hospital. > >I think back to that time and remember how I had to sit down > to load the dishwasher, how walking from one end > of the house to the other was almost too painful to > do, and how standing to take a shower would be so > painful I was left in tears. NOW LOOK AT ME... ***One year ago, I had to bring a chair into the kitchen to finish cooking dinner. I had to lean against the shower wall in order to complete my showers. I couldn't walk the 2 blocks to the park to bring my kids home. > I have gotten my life back, I > have gotten my sense of humor back, and I'm > getting my health back. My blood pressure is low normal, my A1c was 5.7 (diabetes test) and anything under 7 is considered normal, blood sugars are consistently under 100. I haven't had a REAL headache in months and my labs come back great so far except for low normal iron which I'm working on. > > I have found myself caring about the > way I look again... Kathy, I'm glad to share the same re-birthday with you and I know EXACTLY how you feel! Happy anniversary to both of us and glad to finally be a post-er and post-op'er. S. Lap RNY 7/5/02 -129 lbs. Guest guest
Hi Kathy, and we're honored to have you as part of this group. As for the hypoglycemia, I have only experienced something like that once, and I'm not even sure that's what it was, but I know some people will have some great suggestions for you. You've done incredibly well for only a year post-op! in NJ ************************ > > Thank you for listening and I hope you have some > ideas for me.
