Guest guest
Hi, I'm 1 and a half weeks post op and most of the swelling has subsided now I guess, but I'm starting to realize some things. I had a 7mm lower jaw advancement and it's made my jaw seem WIDER and fatter than before. The lower half of my face looks better from a profile but from the front I think it looks worse! I had 16 screws and 2 plates put into my jaw and I was wondering, could it be the plates that are making my jaw look wider?
Guest guest
I haven't had the surgery yet, but I'm guessing a big part of the problem could be swelling. You're only 1.5 weeks post-op and from what I've read, the swelling can hang around for quite awhile - even in specific areas. Good luck! Guest guest
I had mandibular advancement three weeks ago and I noticed the same thing. I ascribe it to two things: (1) My chin has been advanced about 15mm and therefore creates a longer, narrower fromt to my face which automatically makes my back jaw look wider, even if it isn't. (2) I have lost all of the large-scale swelling in my face but am still swollen along my jaw line, particularly toward the back. I suspect that this will last for a while longer. You should check with your Dr about this -- but I think that the plates and screws used are wafer thin and not apt to significantly increase the width of your jaw. > > Hi, I'm 1 and a half weeks post op and most of the swelling has > subsided now I guess, but I'm starting to realize some things.
