Guest guest
Thanks so much , I have never had this happen before; and with everything that has happened in the last two weeks, it really caught me off guard. I have never had my vision do this. I am not the panicky type, and I'll figure it out; but it is a bummer not being able to see like I'm used too. (Sorry, I know I don't have to tell you that) Thanks so much///Connie Subject: Re: Eye examTo: Neurosarcoidosis Date: Monday, March 30, 2009, 9:57 AM Hi Connie, I wanted to let you know that I lost my vision in both eyes all of a sudden. I was driving my twins to school and I could not tell what color the stop light were. I went to the Dr.and he told me I had cataracts, which was caused by the pred. meds. I had surgery and everything is fine now. Good luck ! Eye exam I went to the opthalmologist, he says I have mild cataracts; and that the new glasses I just bought in the last couple of months are all wrong. He thought maybe it had something to do with the higher dose steroids I was on for a while, and high blood sugars. But if I recall correctly I was on my regular dose of steroids. I don't know. I'm not hunting trouble, but I find it awful strange, that 4 days ago I could see great, now I see awful. I'm feeling kind of rough, so I'm fixing to call it a day. Thanks for everything guys..Connie
Guest guest
Tracie, I just remembered something when you asked me about the pressure. I don't think this opthalmologist checked it. I remember him dilating my eyes and looking at them, but I don't remember the computer machine or the "spit" in the eye puff of air. Isn't that when they check the pressure? This doctor was acting weird anyway, his nurse told me he had been mean all day, that nothing she did was right. He also had a visiting family practitioner in the office, and he was treating him like dirt; like trying to humiliate him. I almost left before the exam was over. I end up with some real winners at times. I guess part of what bugged me out, was when the sugars were so awful high I could see. Then all of a sudden I couldn't, and I still can't. Someone forgot to get the ins referral so I don't know if they will do my CT tomorrow or not to see if I have had a cva. My leg is still not working right, and my boss told me today that right before the leg started that the dictations that I typed for my job were really strange. Grief.... The back of my hands look like a sack of bb's. I can push the granulomas up where i can see them very plain, and now I am coughing and having trouble breathing. I have just flat blown a fuse I guess. (that's a haha guys) Oh well, it will get better one way or the other. I am still here, I have a job that is sedentary enough I can mostly still do it (except when I write weird), I have absolute sweeties for grandchildren, and a good family; and great friends both here and in cyberspace. As a young friend of mine would say..."it's all good". I hadn't thought the dry eye part, thank you again Tracie...Connie From: Connie Griffis <conaugusta (AT) yahoo (DOT) com>Subject: Eye examTo: neurosarcoidosis@ yahoogroups. comDate: Sunday, March 29, 2009, 10:09 PM I went to the opthalmologist, he says I have mild cataracts; and that the new glasses I just bought in the last couple of months are all wrong. Guest guest
As always, Tracie is the eye expert. But I'm concerned that this sudden vision loss is being blamed on cataracts. I also had cataracts caused by Prednisone, but the problems developed over time & for me, it was like looking through a lacy curtain. Tracie, can you lose vision suddenly from cataracts? BTW, I'm "fixin" to disconnect Sparky & take him to the computer doctor. Ramblin' RoseModerator A merry heart is good medicine. Proverbs 17:22 To: Neurosarcoidosis From: tiodaat@...Date: Tue, 31 Mar 2009 00:33:59 -0700Subject: Re: Eye exam Connie, When you have high blood sugars-- two things can happen-- you can develop diabetic retinopathy-- where the blood vessels inside the eye start sprouting extra veins-- and that can interfer with your vision, as they proliferate in the retina portion of the eye. The eye actually has very few blood vessels, so any extra in the retina (it's only the size of a pencil eraser) means problems. The other problem is that we can have an "acute" angle closure glaucoma where your vision is fine, then possibly you get a sense of "flu-like" symptoms-- headache, light sensitive, vomitting (especially if the pressure is extreme) and then the macula starts to warp, (it's the size of the tip of a sharpened pencil) and controls your central vision. Or with glaucoma--- you lose the peripheral vision-- and feel like you are looking thru a straw-- If you catch it early, they can relieve the pressure with drops and laser surgery if necessary-- but it saves your vision. If the problem is allowed to go on, you don't get back the vision you've lost. Was this a ophthalmologist you saw, or did you go to an Optometrist? I don't care how much this yahoo doesn't like havng docs follow him, he missed the boat if he did not check the pressure. Yes, there is the puff machine test-- but if they didn't do that, then he should have put a numbing drop in your eyes and then used a type of tonometry that is on their big machine-- it's much more exact in it's measurements. Call and ask them what the pressures were-- and see what they say-- they may do a cover your ass move, or they may have a reading. Either way, you need to get back into someone that isn't going to play games with their patients. Bad medicine indeed. Guest guest
Rose you are right-- YOU CANNOT LOSE VISION SUDDENLY FROM CATARACTS-- THIS IS A SERIOUS EYE PROBLEM-- GLAUCOMA OR DIABETIC RETINOPATHY OR A RETINAL TEAR OR A MACULAR TEAR --AS IN RIP OR HOLE! Guest guest
cATARACTS DO NOT CAUSE A SUDDEN LOSS OF VISION! When you lose your ablilty to see color-- then SOMETHING is going on with the cone receptors of the eye-- in the macula-- What is true is that prednisone can cause cataracts-- and all that a cataracts are is a calcifying of the lens protein itself. It can add a yellow cast to what you are seeing, but it doesn't make for a sudden loss of vision--ever. , I think your MD gave you only a small part of the problem-- and choose not to deal with the whole problem. BTW, 98% of the public will get cataracts-- it's part of the normal aging cycle. That makes it one lucrative medical profession to be in! Guest guest
He was an opthalmologist, but he was a trip. I'll call about the pressure and see what they say. I think it's my neck messing up today, but it makes me sort of nauseous and loopy feeling. I don't any medicine that should do that at all, only Coreg & Prednisone during the day and occasionally Lyrica when my neuropathy starts driving me crazy with the stinging.
