Guest guest
Hi Everyone! I know that we have discussed this problem over the years but until now, I never had any cause to be really concerned with it.... Last weekend, I started experiencing what I thought to be an allergy induced headache. The pain was in the top of my head (around the center) and had a dull ache. No allergy pills or tylenol could get rid of it. It lessened in intensity from time to time, but to date, it is still there. I slept Sunday almost 12 hours straight. I am not talking oversleeping. I got up and suffered thru church and a couple of activities afterward and when at long last, I arrived at home at 3:30 p.m. I crawled into bed. I slept for 3 hours woke up long enough to get a drink and say something to my husband and then fell asleep at 7:30 pm. and slept until 6 a.m. the next mornng. My heart races when I do the simplest activity and even sitting up at my desk all day is a monumental feat. I think I am anemic. I am supposed to get my bloodwork done this week at my doctor's office. Last night I began taking iron pills (1 last night and one this morning). Should I be doing something else? Am I anemic or should I be looking at something different? Carol Richmond, VA
Guest guest
Carol, this is defintely a case of " see your doctor " if I ever heard one. Sure, the exhaustion could be anemia-induced, but the headache is a new one I have never heard associated with an iron shortage or anemia. Usually, the symptoms seem to start with a lack of energy, but this goes on for a while, probably because we tend to ignore it or attribute it to lack of sleep, stress, whatever. You still may be low on iron, but I've never heard of it starting with a headache, then within a couple of days, you can't stay awake. I'm not a doctor, but my gut feeling says there's something else going on, and it may have nothing to do with our surgery. But, your labs are a good place to start. Please go see your doctor, and let us know what he says.
