Guest guest
I'd be very interested in this as well. I had an open bite before surgery (10 days ago), so I'm used to thrusting my tongue forward to swallow (apparently to block the hole and create suction). My orthodontist mentioned that I'd likely have to wear a tongue cage for 6 months after surgery to train my tongue. I wasn't aware of any exercises, but it'd certainly be nice to know the correct way of swallowing! I've been trying to figure it out on my own, now that my mouth has a new shape, without success. As a follow-up question, where should the tongue be when " idle " ? Yann > > When I went to the ortho I found out I'm a tongue thruster. Guest guest
Hi, I thought the below websites would be useful for those interested in tongue thrusting. http://www.bracessandiego.com/tongue_thrust.htm http://www.braceface.com/Oralhabit.htm Yann, I wore a gate for my tongue-thrusting problem when I was 7 years old. I think I had it in a for a year. It was horrible. I felt like Hannibal Lecter and to be honest with you I'm not sure it did much for my swallowing habits. As I got older I learnt how to swallow properly (which would be placing your tongue against the roof of your mouth rather than against your teeth which causes them to stick out). I would say that doing therapy where you are taught how to swallow is worth looking into. However, I would talk about it with your doctor and therapist whether it is worth doing therapy pre-surgery. Since the shape of your mouth will change it might be more useful to wait until after. Sara > > > > When I went to the ortho I found out I'm a tongue thruster.
