Guest guest
My pre-op appointment was an hour long and basically a repeat of the consultation - " here's what we're going to do and here's what you need to know, oh and sign here and have a physician fill this out " ... I don't see why any apointment would be a full day, unless it's the surgery itself (mine was 6.5 hours + 5 hours in recovery). Guest guest
oh you're going in for pre-admission testing , that's why it will take almost a whole day. My doctor told me the same thing and it's good to do the pre-admission testing well in advance of your surgery. Basically they'll run a few blood tests on you, standard stuff you would have to do for any operation, they'll check your blood pressure, heart beat etc. Don't be scared, feel secure in that they're doing all this testing to make sure everything runs smoothly during surgery. the morning sesh will probably be much as what Yann just said, an in-depth discussion on what they will be doing during surgery, what to expect on the day and what to expect post-op. Good luck! Sara > > > > Hey everyone, I have my preop appointment tomorrow for surgery ont > he 20th. Guest guest
do they give you the results and everything the same day...i.e. ok you for the surgery then based on the tests? or is another waiting game? Guest guest
Yep you said it to a tee... Got in at 8 in the maxxilofacial facial surgery department, met with Dr. Precious and his residents, they all had a good poke and prod at me. They did some xrays, a load of molds(ewwwww) and took more mugshots. Then I went upstairs at 1 for the meeting with the preadmissions nusre and the blood taker. He complimented me on how beautiful my blood was..lol. The nurse was super helpful, like she went out of her way to make sure things were prepared fo rme, even so far as getting the nurses on my ward to call friends once im out of surgery ! Im glad its over, next visit will be the real thing. Thanks everyone for your response, I knew what to expect! K Mel wrote: From your name I'm assuming your pre-op appointment is in Halifax?? Well that's where mine (and the following surgery) was. I went to the old General there at the QEII site. The reason it's all day is because technically I had 2 appointments. One at 8am with the oral surgeon in the basement of the Centennial Building for some xrays and they took molds of my teeth and then the other was at 1pm up on the 10th floor of the Building (pre-admissions) for blood work and I talked to a nurse there as well. They took my blood pressure and weighed me and asked me about my family history. My appointment in the morning was about an hour long and the one in the afternoon was about an hour or two. So you see, it's an all day appointment that lasts a couple of hours. Longer if they're running behind I suppose. Hope that helps. > > > > Hey everyone, I have my preop appointment tomorrow for surgery ont > he 20th.
