I too, am a scale worshiper. I HAVE to weigh myself every morning. Yes,

I do get a bit bummed when the number approaches my " upper limit, " but it

also keeps me on the straight and narrow then for a couple of days until it

drifts back down again. Without that " independent " feedback from the scale I

get

every morning, I'm afraid I would be able to ignore my way to a BIG regain.

After all, I NEVER used to get on the scale when I was gaining weight in the

past.

Some people do have an abnormal relationship with the scale; weighing

several times per day. I feel like what I do is pretty well controlled. I

weigh

every morning under the same circumstances (after potty, before eating or

drinking, and totally naked). I stand on the scale, look at the number, get off

and then step back on one more time for confirmation. If the number is the

same each time, I'm done. I NEVER get on the scale after I've had anything to

eat.

I don't let the emotion rule my entire day, but it does play a part in my

day. If I don't keep it in mind, I may find myself indulging in " extras "

that I can't afford, calorie wise, that day.

I feel like my methodology SHOULD keep me from a serious regain. So far,

it is working, but I'm only a bit over 3 years post op. I realize that, for

me, this is a journey that will NEVER be over.

Keeping your self in a 5 pound range sounds normal to me.

I can't do that because my stomach blows up like today and has nothing to do

with weight.

In fact when I am miserably bloated I can get on the scale and see the weight

is the same and know I am OK.

Help! I had Lap RNY 13 months ago and after losing 130 lbs., I am at

goal. My problem is that I'm addicted to the scales. How good my

day is depends on what the scale says. I try to keep my weight

between 180 and 185. If my weight is 180, all is well, the birds are

singing, and life is good. If my weight is 185, I'm angry and

depressed and convinced I need to go another diet. I obsess about

food and weight. Are there others that " worship the scales " every

morning? If not, how do you measure success?

I use to be one of those that worshiped the scales every morning.

I had to stop weighing every morning because of the obsession. Although

I am not at goal weight, there are certainly things that I look at when I

consider success. I have lost about 140 lbs. I can tie my own shoes. I

can actually take a shower unassisted. I am no longer in a wheelchair.

I can fit in movie theatre seats. I actually made it up a flight of

stairs the other day, something I hadn't been able to do for several

years. I can breathe. I can walk without a cane or walker. There are

so many other things that are just as important if not more important

then the number on the scale.

I never weigh myself. The only time I find out my weight is when I go

to the doctor's office and it is done there. My weight has been in the

189-192 lb for almost two years. I can tell by the fit of my pants if I

have gained any weight, which is very rare for me.

I weigh myself every morning, too. But, I do it to red flag myself

if it's on the high end of my 5 pound fluctuation for more than 2

days. That happened a couple of months ago, and we started that

first protein fast, just to get back on track. It worked for me, but

I know it could sneak its way up again at any time. I have to

monitor myself this way or I would just get out of hand. I don't see

the scale as an addiction, but as a necessity, but that's just me.

I am afraid that I am JUST LIKE YOU in how I permit the scale to

affect my disposition. All of a sudden, quite magically, I seemed to

lose about four pounds, and I felt great! My thoughts turned to

losing 30 more, to get to goal. But then a week or so later, six

pounds were just as suddenly regained, and my lifestyle had not

changed [and I am way past menopause]. So, no I am down on myself

once again and struggling to make the scale go down. And, my morning

weigh-in is just like Beth's: post-poop, totally nekid and never

after eating. And then I take my blood pressure and enter all this

data into a program that automagically graphs it all.

Hi

Yep im on the scale twice a day morning and at night

I stay in a five lb limit to. One lb over and I panic.

This keeps me accountable, because I can gain weight and I dont

want that ever again.

I measure success when I moved the scale into the other bathroom.

I can only weight nekkid & empty. If I brush my teeth---TOO late. To weigh

now, I must dress, run down the hall, undress, weigh, redress (robe,

fastened), and run back down the hall. If I drink or take my early protein

or anything, I'm disqualified from weighing.

I weigh about every 3 months, just cuz I'm curious, and still can't believe

the wt isn't moving.
